Ceiling AC registers

2020 Keystone Cougar 26RBSWE TT

I'd like to replace the ceiling registers that came with our unit. They're very difficult to rotate, to blow in a different direction. And the louvers are fixed, as in not adjustable. The most efficient, hardest blowing, coldest air is the vent in the bathroom, where it's not needed. With adjustable louvers I'd close that one almost completely. Worst vent is at the opposite end of the trailer in the bedroom. The two in the center living area are more or less okay, but very difficult to spin to point at us depending on where we're sitting. The travel trailer box is 26ft and the Dometic 15k AC is just offset of center from bathroom to bedroom. I've checked all 4 registers and each is well sealed.

The way I measure it, the inside diameter hole of the register is about 4-3/4 inches. That's the important dimension because that's what sticks up into the foam ac raceway. The outside dimension is the collar that screws onto the ceiling. It's about 6-3/4 inches. And for what it's worth, the outside diameter of the terrible rotating ring is 7 inches.

I can't find a manufacturer name on any of the parts. And a search of Amazon does not turn up any registers with these dimensions.

Does anybody know,

1) the manufacturer of the registers, or
2) a register with these dimensions?

Thanks

The vents are made by Rotaire... If you hunt around you can find what you are looking for with adjustable features...

Also looking at the way that OEM HVAC tape is hanging out you need to pull the four screws out and inspect the attic vent to ceiling factory seal job... They need resealing most likely and half your cold air is blowing up inside the attic

Thanks Chuck. I'll pull those and retape.

Beyond me how the factory thinks their method of taping these vents to the plenum would work. It is guaranteed to leak air into the attic space.

I pulled the covers off of all of my vents and re-taped them.

Here are two images of what the OEM overhead vent install usually will look like on several of those A/C vents..

Remove the four screws and look at the OEM factory HVAC tape they sealed with ..if torn like in the first two 8mages get a roll of aluminum HVAC tape from Walmart and reseal such as shown in third pic..

Images from my 2014 .. from a PDF I put together some years ago on how to repair these and get better cold air lit of the vents.

Also..remove the return grills (two) and use your cell phone on video with the light turned on and video up inside aapmd check and see if any of the return duct is collapsed.. it usually is

You can fix by using a section of 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe cut to length needed to reach the area and insert one on each side of that duct up inside and it will open the duct work back up..

Result..the A/C will breath easier snd will work much better

Note.. keep your new HVAC tape within the exiting four screw holes and when you install the vent base plate it covers up your repair tape job

I invested two inserts RV Airflow system. I had to cut some excess havoc tape out. The insert goes in tight, and does not allow air inside the attic. My friend Richard designed and engineered the hi density Styrofoam insert a tremendous improvement.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll get into town and buy a roll of the foil tape and redo all of them. In the mean time I'll search around on that brand name.

Thanks again

I replaced our factory standard ceiling vents with the Valtera rotating vent.

These work really well for directing flow in the direction needed or reducing flow if you want to.It seemed like we were sending a lot of cold air towards the outside wall. Now it's directed towards the areas we occupy. Ours slipped right in with no mods needed. I did fix the HVAC tape/foil issues prior to installing.

We not only did a better job of sealing the vents, but also sealed the AC unit to the ducts better.

I replaced our static vents that would only rotate with some that have slots that can be closed and the whole thing rotated. This works fine for the most part but when we close them in the bedroom / hall area those vents HOWL.

OMG! Today was the day to investigate and tape up any flaws. I have one 15k Dometic AC and 4 registers on the standard raceway setup. The bedroom ceiling vent is pre-wired for an AC but I installed a MaxxAir instead. But today I got to thinking. They ran two raceways to it, one on either side. When I installed the MaxxAir there was a nice flat tape job on each side and I didn't investigate.

I removed all the tape on the 4 registers. They're tape job was ugly, but I have to say it was probably sufficient. Nonetheless, I retaped all of them. Now they look better, even if I do say so myself, and I know they're "air tight".

But the raceways, both at the AC and the bedroom vent were horrible. If it were water instead of chilled air we would have sunk like the Titanic.

Check out these pictures...
Edit, all 4 raceway ends looked like this, I only shot some of them.
