Battery not charging on Shore power

I got my Cougar 28 SGS ready last weekend. Dewinterized and put the battery back in (I keep it on a trickle charger all winter in the garage). Everything worked great. When I came up this weekend, none of the slides would work. Threw the trickle charger on the battery and they worked. The command center said the battery was full. I checked the water level in the cells and all good. Any ideas of why shore power is not keeping it charged would be helpful. Thanks!

If you're really using a "trickle" charger, then you may have over-charged your battery. You want to use a smart battery maintainer, like the DelTran Battery Tender (for example).

Does the battery show full when you are on shore power? You could just be reading the charge voltage. Take the trailer's cable off of the battery and test it's voltage. Would be be better is to take the battery to an auto parts store and have them load test it.

Finally, is your battery disconnect set in the correct position? I think having this off can prevent a battery from charging while on shore power (I'm not 100% sure about this).

Thank you! I am not sure about the battery disconnect....the key was out and lying in the compartment. There are no instructions that show how it should be. I will try a search to see which way is disconnected.....key in and turned, or turned so the key is out.

If the key was out of the switch, then the switch is in the off position.
However, the slides are usually not wired through the disconnect and will should work regardless of the disconnect. If the disconnect is off, though, the batteries weren't charging.

Got it figured out. Disconnected the shore power, turned on the compartment light and tried the switch. The key has to be in to connect the battery.....rookie mistake.
