Installing Rear Observation Camera

I’m installation Furrion Rear observation camera to my prewired 2019 Keystone Avalanche. Upon connecting the camera and the pre-wire cable, there’s no power. Does anyone know if the pre-wire cable that comes with this 5th Wheel is power from the rear lights and if so I need to hook up my truck to the 5th Wheel?

Mine comes from the running lights on the trailer. Just need to plug the trailer into the truck

My Carbon 357 has a separate switch on the bottom of the overhead cabinet in the garage for the camera's power. I should label it so I don't keep turning all the lights on and off when trying to power up the camera though!

Here is a hack for powering your lights without hooking up to your truck.

For mine to work I have to plug into truck and turn on truck running lights. I'm guessing the power is coming off of running lights of trailer

Mines hot (12v) all the time. Still waiting to find out from Keystone if it’s supposed to be wired that way.

Seems like that's how they do the Alpine wiring, mine's this way also, turns off with the battery disconnect.

I wish mine would.

Our 2019 225MK Laredo gets power from the running lights. Our Bighorn 3575el had power coming from a light on the interior of the rear wall. I found the lead and installed another switch in that light for the camera. Chris

My Avalanche is always on. Have to disconnect the battery when not on shore power or it will drain it.

Sinton4616 I think mine is wire the same way, except I have no 12v power in my two ceiling lights in the back bunk bedroom, the ceiling strip of light in the outside kitchen and the top light in the back trunk room in the rear of the 5thwheel. So General RV is going to re-wire this area. These lights are in the same area of the pre-wire cable for the rear camera. Hopefully this will take care of my rear camera issue. By the way has anyone had these same light problems with their 2019 Keystone Avalanche 379BH.

The Alpine rep recently researched this. What he found out was that Keystone intentionally wired the Alpine 3651 prewire to have 12V power all the time. I told him that doesn’t make a lot of sense particularly when boondocking. I asked for the location/description of the wire to the camera so I could install a switch. When he gets back to me I’ll let you know. I expect he will say they don’t know and I’ll have to rewire mine to a clearance light.

Look for a inline fuse near the batteries/positive buse bar. Most likely will be a 10 amp or so.

OR

Like our 2017 BH3575el power was coming of the drivers side sconce light one the back wall. The door side light was the end of the run, the drivers side light had three circuits. 1. Source 2. feed to door side. 3. ?? / circuit to backup camera.

So I installed a second switch in the ligh's base. Chris

My Cougar gets its power from the running lights so is activated when I turn the Truck Headlight Switch to the On Position (Is not powered by daytime running lights).

I found a fuse like you describe and removed it. Still had power. Well it was worth a try. I’m still trying to find it.

Turn on the sconce lights and pull fuses until they go out and see if camera goes off.

Update on my pre-wire rear observation camera. It’s wire to 12v and not to my truck lights. It appears that Keystone has pre-wire these cables both way and the best way to find out is to call them and they will specifically research your 5th Wheel installation. My 12v lighting in the rear of the bunk suit and the rear kitchen were all shorted, when this problem was fix the camera pre-wire problem was also fix.

So you could find the light were the camera power is tapped in and install a camera on/off switch there if you wanted.
