Weights Check Please

Hey guys,

Looking for a second opinion on some weights from TV and trailer. I think I'm sitting OK within the allowances but would like some more experienced advice.

TV - Tahoe 1500 Series 4WD Short Wheelbase
5.3 L V8 with HD Cooling Pkg 3.42 Axle ratio
Max Trailer Weight Rating 8200 lbs / GCWR 14000 lbs
GVWR 7300, Front Axle 3600, Rear Axle 4100

Trailer - 2017 Passport 2400BH
2x 3500 lbs axles with a 6800 lb max weight

Scale Results with TV & Trailer - Steer Axle: 2900
Drive Axle: 3740
Trailer Axle: 4560
Gross: 11200
Scale Results Tahoe Alone - Steer Axle: 3140
Drive Axle: 2880
Gross: 6020

So I figure Tahoe weighs 6020 on its own, trailer weighs 5180 which puts me at 80% of my GCWR. Tongue weight looks to be 620 which is about 12% of the trailer weight. I will most likely add about 400 lbs of people to the Tahoe when traveling (my own weight was already included on the scale) and add about 500 lbs of additional gear to the trailer.

Thoughts??

I’m thinking your tongue weight might be higher than you are figuring. You may want to consider changing your weight distribution so your front axle is closer to its original weight. At this point it looks like you are within your limits. Enjoy.

Thanks for the advice!
How can I adjust the WDH to shift weight to forward axle? Use more links in the WD chains? I have a Husky WDH, the type that has chains on the weight distribution bars.

I agree with above, your numbers took off 240 from front axle, added 860 to rear. So the payload weight added to the vehicle is about 860 lbs almost all on rear hitch. Some say add the 240 loss on the front axle and add that to the rear number you got. I think that is not 100% right but somewhere in between.
You can try adjusted the WDH by taking up more links but, the bars should not be bent, you may only get a little change. But, try it out and see.

If you look at it this way there is very little room for error.

Deduct the trailer's GVWR from the truck's GCWR.

Can you get the truck GVW below GVWR by manipulating the truck's total cargo including tongue weight?

You should always figure to the trailer's GVWR because someday you'll be carrying that much.
