Thermistor bulb

It goes with the bulb up and cord down. Look at the bracket, one side attaches to the cooling fin and the bulb goes in the the other slot.

I had to replace our thermistor a year or two ago, and when I was checking it because it too was not in firm contact with the fin, the clip was severely corroded and very weak and the thermistor was coated in the corrosion. I installed the new thermistor along with the new clip and the fridge is working again. This is a link for Norcold thermistors. http://thenorcoldguy.com/norcold-thermistors/

Norcold and Dometic thermistors do not look the same or attach in the same way.

When he said bracket I figured it was a Dometic one. You can slide the bracket up/down to fine tune the temp, on a Norcold they are designed to be placed in a specific spot and not move. Another difference is the Dometic parts are plastic, Norcold has metal pieces. Which is better? I can't say and don't want to start that debate.
