another ball height question

RV is 2010 Passport 300BH
The RV is in a field so I can't get an accurate measurement on the coupler height. I have a new TV and I need to adjust the hitch to correct height. Did a lot of searches but I can't find a consistent number.

Even if you were able to measure it or get a consistent number you cannot account for the suspension settling on the TV fro the weight. The best thing o do is get it hooked up, figure out where you are and adjust from there to get the trailer level. I understand it is out in a field and you probably want to get your TV set up so it is ready when you want to go, but I'm afraid you would not be happy with the results if you did it without actually hooking up.

Are you using the same hitch? Measure your old tv and set your new to the same. That will get you real close.

New hitch
New TV
New RV
Towed the RV only once using a friend's half ton so I have no reference.

I not 100% sure how accurate this is, but I saw something somewhere (can't remember where) that most trailer hitch heights are about 16". With that, my flatbed trailer and my car trailer are both the same height and if I remember correctly without going out to measure them they are right around 16".

Totally agree but I'm just looking for ballpark then i'll fine tune. Is it 19" or is it 24"? I may have to purchase a new lower (longer) shank depending on the answer.

not sure if it's all that relevant but mu Passport 2890RL is 22" to the top of the receiver when level.

When upgraded I was using the same hitch and trailer so I measured the old vs new and dropped the hitch 6 inches which was the lowest point. It was close enou for government work so I left it. You might need to take guess, hook up and run to a flat load. Take a look and make any adjustments that are needed. Good luck.

I always measure the bottom of the frame to ground between the axles. You may need to add or subtract from the measurement based on how the coupler is configured in respect to the frame but it should give you a good baseline. If the field is super uneven, measure on both sides and take the average.

I've adjusted my receiver to its lowest setting and the top of the ball sits at 24" off the road. It will have to be good enough to bring it home from storage and make final adjustments.

24" is the norm off the ground weld shops use this as a setting or starting place for ball top 26"is also used for weak springs or soft cars as the coil springs sag more to start with Bushman

as Javi mentioned, his Passport sits @ 22" and I can confirm mine does as well. the ball on my hitch is at 25" and even with the weight of the tongue and the WD adjustments, I didn't like the stance of the trailer or my car. I need to drop my ball 2-3 inches and I am now shopping for a new lower (longer?) shank for my Reese WD hitch. anyone have good recommendations for online stores for hitch parts?
