Tequanimum Falls MI

Spending 4 days up there first of July for the first time. We are staying at the state park and was wondering if anyone could give me some tips regarding things to do (besides the falls) and any mosquito/ horsefly advice

Enjoyed a wonderful 4th of July week up there last year- going later in July this year. I just picked up there summer visitors guide this weekend while in the U.P. There is parade in Paradise on the 4th and fireworks at dusk (right on the lake). Oswalds Bear Ranch is great, $20 for a car load of visitors. You can feed and take pictures with the cubs. We also enjoyed a little side trip to Crisp Point lighthouse which is great for photo's. White Fish point is another close by must see. Great beach, lighthouse, and shipwreck museum. We spent hours relaxing on the beach there and collecting great stones. Mosquito's weren't as bad as we expected and were warned about. We used normal spray and some citranella candles. Horseflys were worse near the falls and on the trails. We stayed in Site #1 of the Lower Falls last year. Every site was packed but it was still unbelievably clean and quiete. We can't wait to visit again, it's our most anticipated trip of the year.

A few more side trips if you're inclined. Sault St Marie for the locks and boat traffic, Munising for Pictured Rocks and glass bottom shipwreck boat trips, Mackinaw Island for a day without automobiles. Don't forget the Mackinaw fudge, it's made in Grand Rapids but tastes just like it was made in Mackinaw City ROFLMBO

Don't know if it works on horsefly s, but a thermocell is something I don't leave home without down in the south. The skeeters are big enough down here to ride!!!! Thermocell will keep them away.

We stayed there last year. It was a very nice campground. Had no issues what so ever with mosquitos or horseflies. Must have just got lucky

Thanks John,

We really enjoyed camping there. We don't have it on our list this year, but we will be going back. When we do, we will go to the Soo Locks and to Pictured Rocks.
Here is a decent article on things to see in Michigan's UP (upper peninsula)

When I was assigned to KI Sawyer AFB, we used to fly along pictured rocks in fighter aircraft. Some of the pictures I have (If I ever get them scanned) are the same as what you see from the boat tour, but from 100' above the rocks. The water below the rocks varies from light green to dark blue and reflecting off the rocks, it's amazing. I'll try to dig some of them out and scan them.

If you get to Munising, stop at the Dogpatch for some cinnamon roll french toast
We always hit them up when we snowmobile up there.
