Proper cargo carrier configuration?

I guess this is acceptable? Lol..if you need to mount the straps to a fifth wheel just use thru bolts and backer plates..or one of the straps could be tied to the ladder

Saw this on 95 this morning

Even with the straps it looks to be hanging pretty low!!!

Straps should be crossed.

Heck, no problem here.... There's lots of room left for a generator and a blue tank on that cargo carrier. Then, on top of those straps, he could "hang" his two electric bikes"...

It might get crowded if he has two 2000 watt generators, but a 3400 watt one would be perfect for that "setup"....

As long as he's got a "wireless rear camera" he'll know early enough, "in the unlikely event" something might go wrong.....

You all missed what's REALLY going on in that photo.... There's no danger with that cargo carrier.... that hand is holding it up!

Yeah traffic was pretty backed up and out of the corner of my eye I saw this..looked like the whole car was tilted back and the carrier was pretty low to the ground…

don’t know if police are allowed to pull them over and say “ uh uh nope…put it in the car before it’s all rolling across four lanes of traffic”

Wonder where the cutoff is for safety violations…could he have two cargo carriers and four straps? If it were a homemade trailer it would have to be tagged and inspected…seems like if it doesn’t have wheels then you can just build an erector set off the back of your vehicle and set off down the highway

Years ago if you jacked up a truck and bumper was too high or had a car with tires sticking out past the fenders you would get pulled over.

Just hang around a Home Depot near a large city and you'll see all sorts of sketchy stuff being tied or strapped to cars. Like was stated, you can't fix stupid.

Lol I used to have a picture I took at Home Depot..guy looked a bit “off”

He had an old high top conversion van with what looked like 20 sheets of plywood on the roof..he had ratchet straps going all the way around the van From the roof under the frame and back up the other side..don’t know what he did about the driveshaft. He was on the roof jumping up and down to prove to his tweaker girlfriend that it was ok…the door sills were practically touching the ground.
I went in and told the manager about it and asked him if he should go outside to check it out…. “Nope”. He didn’t want any part of it
Don’t know how far they made it but they were gone when I came out lol

The picture is on one of my old phones somewhere

If you could ask the driver, the answer would be "It drives just fine. It's been that way since XX miles ago."

Thumbs down

He’s ok, the hitch rating is 300 lbs but he got a cargo carrier rated for 800 lbs.
That gives him 1100 lbs!

I think your math is off. That's hitched to the SUV and his tow capacity is 3.500 lbs. so 3,500 + 1,100 = 4,600 lbs. He's WAY under!

So that's the way someone gets a 19,000 pound payload on an F250/F350.... New math, ain't it great !!!!!

After studying the picture of that carrier that Brian posted, I think the guy should go to Harbor Freight and have a square frame welded on the bottom of that cargo carrier that you could mount an axle and put a lawn tractor tire on the axle. This would probably give that carrier at least 500 lbs additional weight capacity.

If he's going that far, might as well put some hydraulics on it and turn it into a tag axle. No sense burning up those tires when its not loaded.

NIIIIICE! I especially like the tarp-wrap. God knows we never see tarps (or mattresses, ladders, and sofas) on the side of the interstates near ATL.
