Generator runs and shuts off after about 20 min

Onan 5500 generator... will start up normally when cold. After running about 20 min or so, it will die. Sometimes I can restart right away, but it dies immediately. If I wait an hour or so, it will start up and run fine again for about 10-20 min and die.
It sounds like the fuel pump is working (but sounds very odd), fuel level is full, oil level good, air cleaner is like new.

With all that said, all the research Ive done to this point keeps pointing be back to the fuel pump and filter. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger and do a full service (oil, filter(both air and oil), plugs, fuel pump and fuel filter. The generator only has about 20 hours on it. Thought I would put this out there and see if anyone else might have any ideas before I go down the path I'm getting ready to go down. BTW... it throws a 36 code (I think I'm reading the blinking correct)

disclaimer... I've very new to RV'ing so I'm still on a steep learning curve

Thanks in advance
Bill

Our Onal 4400 (I think that was the model number) in our motorhome would do the same thing. It was a "improperly installed air deflector" under the generator. Holiday Rambler installed it upside down when building the motorhome....

I'd suspect that you've got a "cooling airflow issue" and the generator is getting too hot, or you have a gas "vapor lock" issue from the fuel line getting too hot and causing a fuel flow issue to the carburetor.
