questions about 325SRX

are there any owners of the 325SRX out there? I have some questions about space for gen onboard or if they have to be carried on the truck.

There is a few of us here, you can search and see our posts over the past year. There is no factory genset options, I keep ours in the bed then on a bumper mount when camping.

Welcome Captmoondog,

I don't own a Cougar, but I can answer your question --

You're correct. It has 1 (13.5K btu) A/C unit; & the 325SRX is pre-wired for a 2nd A/C in
master bedroom. And, if I remember correctly, the 2nd A/C will 'not' be ducted on a Cougar.

15K btu A/C upgrade is an option.

Hope this helps,

No, probably not... not with a 36+ ft 5th wheel, and especially in your location.

Quite honestly, it really depends on your camping/traveling style. If you normally
dry camp without A/C, then a 2nd A/C unit may not be worth it to you. On the other
hand, if you plan to travel during summer months, there will be areas in the southern
states where 1 A/C will NOT be sufficient for a trailer of that size.

At the very least, I'd suggest a 15K btu in the main living/dining area.

Some food for thought: If you're ordering a new trailer, a factory installed 2nd a/c
will likely be a lot less expensive than a dealer install at a later date (w/ unit
price + labor costs, etc).

Hopefully some of the 325SRX owners (or others with a 36 ft FW) will jump in &
give you first-hand info on the 2nd A/C.

I Have a cougar 325srx and I have the exact configuration you are suggesting. Honda 3000 in an aluminum lock box in the bed of the truck. Very happy with it. I have 4 batteries in the front hatch, solar panels and an inverter. I use the Honda only in cloudy weather and if we need air conditioning..

Our climate really has no need for second a/c. The cougar 325srx is prewired for second a/c in the master bedroom as jje1960 mentioned. I installed 3 maxx air deluxe fans, bathroom, bedroom, living room. Happy with the performance of this configuration..

It took me about two weeks' worth of Texas summer to convince me that two A/C units were absolutely mandatory if I wanted to keep the interior below 90, or get the unit cool sooner than 3-4 hours after stopping on a hot day. I don't know if Florida is as bad but I'd say that if you travel in the south in the summer you're going to be adding a second A/C at one point or another. A 15k main unit will help but not be enough on its own (15k is a small percentage increase over 13.5k after all.) On triple-digit days in open sun even two units will be taxed, but they will do the job.

Luckily the pre-wiring on the 325SRX makes the installation of a second unit pretty straightforward. I did it myself but you're gonna need a strong friend or two...

Aircon

As others have stated, one is really 'iffy' depending on the climate. We have the 15k and in Myrtle Beach, July heat / humidity, we used a portable unit in the garage area to assist the main unit. Eventually, I'll look at putting in another unit in the bedroom. I've been looking at the low profile Coleman unit. The portable really saved our butt's though, vents through the small window at the back of the unit, uses very little amps. I have a tube that drains the water through the floor of the unit. In the 80's temp, the main cabin unit works fine, once it hit's the 90's it starts to really struggle. I have now obtained foam squares for all the vents, this should help dramatically with heat entry points.

Dually

Yes, we have the F350 6.7 Dually. At 400HP / 800 Ft/Ibs it's a towing dream, inclines and stopping are very strong.

While I don't want to get into the SRW/DRW battle and there may be good reasons to choose a DRW tow vehicle, garage cargo is behind the trailer axle so additional pin weight based on rear cargo load is not one of them.

True, but the added weight behind the axles may require additional weight in front of the axles to keep the load balanced and avoid possible handling problems. Now don't get upset, I'm not a TH'er person, but have read numerous post on other forums of folks addiing weight in the front to compensate for the increased load in the garage. Just something to think about.

Yes, would agree the weight is behind the axles, also would submit the weight is still there and plenty of it with the HD, believe the DRW on the TV assists with stopping and stability.
