Generator goes straight to overload
Just got our new to us 08 cougar 289bhs home and trying everything out. When I went to plug our camper into our 3500 digital invertor generator it went straight to overload and no power to camper. There was nothing on in the camper at all fridge was on propane and ac was off. Any ideas what could be going on. Camper functions properly when plugged into power in shed.

If nothing is on in the trailer, this shouldn't happen. What plug on the gen are you using? Some have a twist lock 30A that you need an adaptor on your shore cord.

It is a twist 25 a plug on generator that I made a cord with the 110 end

Would there be something wrong in fuse box or the convertor as I am baffled. This setup worked on my old camper no problem. Ran hair dryer with the generator and generator ran like it should.

Check your cord you made. So your plugging the 30A shore cord from the trailer into another cord you made with the 25A end plugged into the gen?

Turn off all the circuit breakers in the trailer, then start the generator, plug in the RV and turn on the main circuit breaker. The generator "should' continue to run without problems. Then turn on each individual circuit breaker until you find the one that causes the generator to go into overload. Determine what is connected to that breaker and you should be able to isolate your problem.
Remember that your converter is connected to shore power and "automatically" goes into the battery charge mode as soon as you plug in your RV. Depending on the battery charge level and any other electrical equipment that may be operating, you can easily have a demand of 15 amps or more with the A/C and refrigerator turned off. Don't forget that you may also have an electric element in your water heater. If it's turned on, you'll draw about 12 amps there as well.

Ok so I shut off all breakers in camper and go to plug in generator and it does same thing go to overload and shuts down. What is wrong with this thing?? Help!!!

Jon, this thing seems to gravitate to the problem being the plug/cord. I don't claim to be an expert on electrical ANYTHING, but at this point that is probably what I would investigate next.

Go buy the proper 30a cord for the generator and plug it in and see what happens. Don't take the tags off it and if it does not work then return it.
I am thinking same as everyone else though your cord is bad and causing the overload.

After some trial and error I discovered that there was a bad wire from the hot water tank electrical element. It was puzzling as this was all happening with breakers off. The white wire that is plugged into the bank with all the other white wires was the problem
