Thank You Ford Motor Co. for making tough and safe trucks.
Glad you son is okay! Just one more reason to stick with Ford. Went from Dodge to Ford and couldn't be happier.

Hansel, I've seen you over on powerstroke.org so I already know you are familiar with not only the issues but the fixes on the Powerstrokes as well.
I looked at the Chevy Duramax before I settled on our 6.0L and they have had their issues too. I couldn't justify the added cost of a similar year Chevy for thousands more when I found a Ford with ARP Studs, EGR upgrade, oil cooler, turbo etc already done and it has been a great truck so far and beautiful inside and out.
How many are on the road, a million or 3?
I don't know if I will ever buy another new truck at what they cost today.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the big three but if you go with a Powerstroke I would start with looking at the 06/07..lf keeping in that budget.

Not to off topic you but where you guys going at Myrtle?
I just got back and I can tell you 80-85% of the trucks in the campground were Ford's. Only saw a few 7.3PSD like mine but the rest were 6.0s,6.4s,6.7s.. 250s,350s,a very few 450s. also saw a lot of SRW250s, SRW350s pulling triple and double axle toy haulers.
I did see one very nice TH with a what looked like a brand new Logger Edition 4x4 DRW450. all painted to match each other, SWEET!!
got a chance to talk to the guy, Logger Edition was his on decal.. and he said they had bought the truck last year and had it a 3-4 months and a lady took the front end off it. He had been/or had worked on it for 3 months getting it back right. It was sweet ride..
Glad you are OK and your son is OK.
good luck on your vehicle hunt..

We are staying at Myrtle Beach State Park, and my brother is traveling from Panama City today so I can use his Chevy 2500HD duramax until I get my replacement truck. I did go by the Ford dealer and seen a truck that I loved but then I looked at the sticker 65K Ford can keep it!!!

I find it strange how different regions seem to support different trucks. Back in my home town (northern WI) seems you see 75% GM, out in NM/CO area it was Ram, apparently FL is Ford. Guess that just proves people from northern WI prefer the better trucks

Personally, I think all 3 are good, I have always been partial to GM. I drove a powerstroke once and didn't care for the hesitation/lag. All in what you get used to/can fit into your budget. Yes, the duramax seems to run a higher price on the used ones, but new sticker seems to be about the same.......TOO MUCH!!!!

The new 6.7s have a reversed valve configuration that eliminates the throttle lag.

We had an 06 F350. Bought it used with an extended Ford warranty. Over 3..well almost 4 years we had the high pressure pump go, blew two turbos, one intercooler and the front bearings were replaced. Total was 9k in warranty work. The 6 litre needs and EGR bypass, a proper one not a back yard miracle and a new oil cooler. Have a look on you tube at the comments on the 6 litre. If I had to be a similar year truck it would probably be a Cummins, although the rest of the truck would probably fall apart before the engine. Today we have a 2011 F350 , 6.7 litre and this is an amazing engine. After the last two duds Ford finally got it right.

Well I have a update:

First off my brother saved our vacation by letting me use his Chevy 2500HD with a Duramax, and all I can say is "wow" I really like the truck, plenty of power and the allison transmission is great I really liked the tow mode of the transmission.

Second, is now that we are back I picked up a replacement truck. I found a 2001 F-250 7.3L CCSRW 4X4 Lariat that is the same color as my old truck with 224K on the clock. So starting this weekend all the fluids get changed, and making the transformation into my new ride.

Same here. Not sure what it was, bad fuel load or just carbon, but recently had a slight hesitation, stopped at Ford dealer, got a bottle of Cetane and very quickly problem went away. We have 33K on our 2011 6.7, super happy.
