Brake Controllers

Hey all,

I'm in the market for a new brake controller for my new (to me) 2009 Tundra TRD 5.7L V8.

I've been doing some research, and Tekonsha seems to be the most popular choice for brand. With respect to model however, there seems to be 3 options, currently I'm leaning towards the cheapest of the 3, the Voyager. The other two options are the pricier Primus IQ or the Prodigy.

I'd love to hear some feedback from people that have had experience with any of these models, and any pros and cons you may want to share.

Thanks!!

Spend the extra few dollars for the Prodigy. You will not be sorry. Very reliable and works smoothly, easy to install with good instructions (vehicle specific) JM2¢ Hank .... Enjoy your new TV

I use the Prodigy P3 and have used the older Prodigy, both worked flawlessly for me. Check E-Bay and Amazon for better pricing. E-bay may have some used ones. These things have been bullet proof for me!

Had a Voyager, threw it in garbage after first big trip. I LOVE my Prodigy. IMO you shouldn't install a Voyager even if someone gave you a new one free.

I got the Hayes with my last 5er and couldn't wait to get back to a Prodigy. I just bought the P3 from AdventureRV.com - great price and fast shipping. Installing it this weekend.

Another vote for the Prodigy! Make sure your brakes are adjusted properly as well. Makes a big difference. Especially on multi axle rigs.

Brake Controller

I went with a Hensley Tru-Control Gold and it really works well. Towing a Cougar 318SAB with a Dodge Rem 3500/Cummins.

Very simple set up, never had to adjust the settings after set up. It never locks up and never feels that it is pushing my truck through the intersection.

Downside is price, I paid $270.

I have to agree with the group, go with a Prodigy. I got rid of my old Draw Tite controller a couple of years ago and am in total love with the Prodigy. My brother in law has a Voyager and has problems with the controller settings staying put. So he finds himself messing with it alot, so in my opinion spend the extra 40 or so dollars and buy a Prodigy.
