The problem with that method is the perspective of the photo. The length of the trailer is not perpendicular to the camera lens but rather the rear end of the trailer is farther away than the front end. The effectivly "shortens" the length when attempting to measure a 3d object thats not flat to the viewer in a 2d plane.

Think of iot this way, stand at the corner of your camper looking down the side. If you "peek down thelength and hold a ruler at arms length how long does it appear? Then step around and face the side and try measuring again.

It is impressive that we have so many forensic investigators that have the time and skill to determine the cause of the terrible looking wreck. I just figured it was caused because they were trying to tow with a crappy foreign made SUV that was not intended for towing or the wind blew them and an uncontrollable swerve set up.

The small print: But with the unibody construction, light curb weight and limited wheelbase, any trailer over about 4000 pounds will "overpower the vehicle and you might wind up upside down with all 4 tires "safely protected from further road damage".....
They concentrated all of the engineering on building a stronger roof in the event/inevitably of a wheels up attitude.

That was my 1st Ford experience (unfortunately not my last) & my grandad's one & only Ford experience, his usual tow vehicle at that time was a '62 Buick Wildcat, that would've jerked that Econoline thing to pieces & drove Buicks til the day he passed.
LOL!
That was the reason I stuffed the 302 V8 in mine! It started with a 144 straight 6, gutless wonder. The final straw was coming home from a day of skiing. I passed a loaded log truck waiting at a road to pull on the highway. I was driving up a slight into a a slight headwind, I had it floored doing maybe 55. Within about a mile that log truck had caught me and passed me!

Surely, the driver in that photo wouldn't be trying to tow a 38' trailer..... Or would he ????? How could any salesman/service manager even consider selling something like this ???
Well I think it is a Trail Runner 255RL, my reasoning is I don’t see a refrigerator roof vent in the picture. True it could be in the left rear corner and blocked by the officers. That said the 255RL fits better, refrigerator in slide, and about 26’ long, yes still too larger for the pictured TV.

I believe it is a Porsche Cayenne.

In no small SUV expert, but I heard it was a Cayenne from someone on the scene. Also the grille looks like a Cayenne and not an Audi.

A few more "leads" for the detectives.
The Facebook page for that CHP office shows two pictures of the accident scene with a different (but not a really better to identify) angle on the trailer.
The following blog stated that the TV was a Porsche Cayenne, that can tow up to 7700 lbs. properly equipped. It also stated a dry weight of 6378 lbs. for that model trailer. Not sure if this info is correct about this incident or if this particular poster on the blog was on scene to verify.
Should help pin down what the trailer weight could of possibly been.
But obviously whatever the weight was, it was too much for that TV.

From Google, our friend: "The Porsche Cayenne is well-known for its high-performance engine and sleek aesthetic, but we often get asked, “How much can the Porsche Cayenne tow?” The maximum towing capacity for the 2019 Porsche Cayenne is 7,700 pounds. Mar 27, 2019" Hard to believe over all.

Yeah I edited my post a min ago…it’s an odd choice having a cayenne for a tow vehicle with a traditional trailer…I would think they would have picked a $70000 airstream basecamp to better fit the image…with a couple of roadbikes and colorful spandex bike touring outfits

This is what happens when you how with a 1/2 ton and should of at least had a w/4 if not a 1 ton. I tried loading photos but for some reason they will not load. But what happen was a vehicle passed and cut off so the truck went off the road trailer jacked knife flipped onto its side after hitting rear of truck. Trailer and truck totaled.

Traffic Lanes are 12', the shoulder appears wider than that, so even if it was straight across, that's a 26+ foot house, so a 30+ foot trailer, and the smallest one of that size is a 6900lb GVRW. With a hitch max of 617lb, not so good a choice.

Yup. Driven that freeway many, many times. High speeds and long hills.

I second this opinion. This was my thought looking at the picture before I got down to this portion of the thread.

Nope. The Trail Runner logo is on the front of the Trail Runner... The trailer that's on its side in the photo in post #1 says "Wilderness" on the front cap...

Its weird you don't see any propane tanks. Maybe they are obscured by the trailer from the angle of the pic.
