An example with a satisfactory ending: Our new neighbors here in the RV park generally emptied his tanks in the middle of the afternoon and naturally that's when we're sitting around out front talking with others. A few days ago ago I asked him if he would empty them early in the morning or late in the evening because of the slight odor (almost impossible to prevent) and rather unpleasant to have them dumping alongside a crowd of people.
This is an older park and the pipes are located halfway along the site, not at the rear by the electric pedestal.
He looked confused at first and then it dawned on him what he was doing and said he had never given it a thought before. No problems, no attitude.
On the other subject, I am always grateful when people let me get in front of them with only two items, and I ALWAYS make it a point to say thanks again after checking out.

What's sad to me is that nowadays when someone acts civil or repectful that we find it refreshing. It should be the norm not the exception. I too will act polite and try my best to treat others as I want to be treated. Anyone can have "a bad day", or be preoccupied with their thoughts. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt initially as you don’t know what's going on in their life. With that said, I think I can get a pretty good "read" on folks and know the difference but the initial exchange is still cordial. If the response is ignorant, well it probably won't end well.
