Laredo hitch question

We just bought a Laredo 367BH. It has no rear bumper instead it has a welded on 2" hitch. We are looking to use it with a bike rack. What is the generally accepted weight limit for these hitches on the back of these FW? For those of you that use these with bikes racks do you see any problems?

If you have the same type of hitch as I do, which is a Ultra Fab weld on to the actual trailer frame, then a bike rack should be good. I carry 4 adult sized bikes on mine with no issues. I have a https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Fab-35-...omotive&sr=1-7

It looks just like that. Cool. We are looking at carrying 4 bikes also. Looking at bike racks now just trying to decide how much money I want to spend on one.

There was a recent thread in which a member posted a photo of the decal that is attached to the weld joint under his trailer where the rear cargo attachment is welded to the frame. If I remember, the decal said something like "Maximum load 300 pounds". I could be wrong and the maximum may be more or possibly even less than 300 pounds.

There should be a similar decal under your trailer, where the carrier is welded to your frame members.

Have you looked under the trailer for that decal?

I looked and looked at all the manuals. We just bought the FW. No specifications anywhere. I assumed 300 to 500 just don't want to get to the CG and have no bike rack or bike.

Can't help you on the hitch capacity either but I will recommend not to "skimp" on the bike rack. Whatever you choose make sure that it has the means to limit motion in all directions. A 100 lbs or more of bikes bouncing around like tin cans tied to a newlyweds number will end up over stressing something eventually.

This is the one we have. Used it for two years so far. Last year we started put it on the back of the 5'er which is 43' long. You need to make sure the bolt is secure and I am thinking of adding a Ubolt to keep it tight at the receiver. Holds 4 bikes great to Tenn. and back to Michigan twice with no issues.

There are probably better out there but this has worked for me.

The photo of the decal is in post #7 of this thread: https://www.keystoneforums.com/forum...=cargo+carrier Max 300 pounds. Remember that anything extending out from the receiver will "lever" more weight than the "300 pounds at the tube", so take that into account. Things will "bounce wildly" that far beyond the rear of any travel trailer. I'd suspect you'll be OK with 150 pounds or less 18-24 inches beyond the hitch coupling.

Thank you. The calculator in the post 8 was eye opening. 150lbs just 2 feet back could be 600lbs bouncing around.

Yeap, Few people realize just how effective (or destructive) a 24" lever can be.

Ask any "farmboy" about lifting a 1000 pound tractor tire off the ground with a 10' 2x10 and a 10" oak log... Position the "lever" correctly, you don't even need to stand on the 2x10.

I would be worried about that 1-1/4" receiver arm, I would keep a close eye on that for bending and cracking. Four bikes bouncing on the back of a 43' 5er will put a lot of stress on that tube.
Our Swagman with 1-1/4" tube has a sticker stating not to use on the back of an RV. We carr our bikes on a pin box mount.

Thinking outside the Box or on it.

Well I have seen way too many rear mounted bike racks beating the heck out of bikes and a couple laying on the side of the highway!
I had seen this solution before, some made a major production out of getting the angle for the top if the angle iron correct. I simply leveled the 5er, placed the angle iron piece on the pin box and placed a level on it and drew a level line. I had a local wielder wield it up and he also punched the holes for the mounting bolts. I love the bikes are always in sight.

As to questions,
No it doesn't even come close to hitting the cab.

I either load from the ground on a level site, of from the TV Tailgate on a downward sloping site.

I have gotten remarks when posting before that a member has put four bikes on a similar setup with a short bed TV.

I am the guy that used to have 4 bikes on the pin box of my Cougar. My new 5’er won’t take them there. The pin box is farther under the cap. We check the rack each time we get ready to travel and so far have not had an issue.

I have the same model 367bh: I found in the literature that there is. 300lb limit on that hitch. I am putting a 4 bike hitch rack on mine too.
