Dometic 300 Toilet

Has anyone had any issues with recent Dometic 300 toilets? A few years ago they had a recall on these models. I think I have some leakage that I see at the bottom of the toilet. Basically, I see a small amount of liquid coming out between the plastic and floor. I've noticed it that last couple of camping trips. At first, I thought it may be water from the shower/bath. Now, I'm noticing a strong urine smell in the bathroom.

I think I remember the recall had to do with solids getting trapped in a cavity not making it down the chute and then backing up some water. The leaks occurred because the cavity was above the floor seal. Here is copy of a post from another forum we used to belong to:
Well it turns out there is somewhat of a silent recall on these toilets. As per the manufacturer they used a snap seal on bottom of unit which did not seal properly allowing waster water to collect/pond in the plastic toilet framing. This seal has been rectified by utilizing a screwed-in bottom seal. I gave the manufacturer my toilet serial number and the rep informed me of known problems and shipped me a new toilet. So if you have a foul odor problem with your bathroom it may not be your tanks. Oh and yes the rep did inform me that the defect has the potential to damage bathroom floor/flooring. I will just wait to see what I am in for when my replacement gets here. Dometic may just hear from me again pretty soon. Toilet was a dometic 300 foot flush

I called Dometic and they sent me out a new toilet. Does anyone know if the water fitting needs teflon tape? I would assume so, but the trailer is in storage right now.

There should be a seal on the female fitting. I call them cone or volcano seals, may not be the right name, but it's not often they need replacing.

Thanks. Is it the same seal as on the drain lines outside (Fresh, Hot, Cold)?

Just call Dometic. They will send you a new one within a 1-2 days (under 2 year warranty).

300series internal leak.

Found the source of our urine smell!!!!!
I had cleaned everything I could think of so I decided to get the old google opinion and found that the 300 series leaked internally . I took my $10 scope and sure enough mine hade the same problem as shown in the screen shots.
Remover it ,put bleach in the cavity and then cleaned and rinsed wall smell gone!
I have contacted dometic to see what they say .

Hope this info helps someone .

There was a recall on Dometic 300 series toilets a few years ago. I had a 2012 Sunnybrook that was affected and it was the lower plastic water doo-hickey. They wouldn't honor the recall toilet swap on my unit as it was too old and the window was closed but they did sell me a new lower plastic doo-hickey and I installed it in a minute or two and problem was taken care of. Can't recall why it dripped but it did and I think there was some ability to pop if the toilet feed line froze so the toilet wouldn't be damaged or something of the sort. Sorry, it has been awhile. That was four trailers ago.

I take mine in Wednesday for a new valve. When you press the foot pedal and release it will not stop filling. Fortunately I have two toilets and used the other one on a recent trip.
I was not aware of a recall. May have to mention that to service techs.
Thanks

I believe your toilets are Dometic 310 series, not the 300 series. 310's have porcelain bowls, the 300's have plastic bowls. If so, then your toilets are not a part of any "300 toilet recall"... Double check to be sure, but if your toilets are ceramic bowls, you're not affected by the recalls discussed in this thread.

Yes, toilets are porcelain. I tried to (and could not) find an identifier on the toilet as I was going to fix the valve myself while on the road. DW in her infinite wisdom (sometimes) said to just let the dealer do it since it is warrantied and if it fails it will be on them. Since we had another working toilet that sounded like a good idea.
Thanks John

I had a leakage issue twice, but it was just water. The first time, Dometic sent me a new toilet. The second time, they said it was the water flush valve. They sent me a new valve. Both issues were the exact same. I had some water around the floor of the toilet. It seems to happen every two years.

Mine, the 310, has a very similar issue. Thought it was the floor flange seal. Which Dometic was very helpful with. However the water did not have any odors and was very clear. The water appears to be coming either from the flush valve or the vacuum break. Something about trying to stick your head behind a toilet is not to appealing. I believe it started showing up after draining the black water tank and filling and flushing the toilet 4 to 5 times to flush everything out of the tank. Any thoughts on this?

This sounds similar to mine. I saw water around the plastic at the floor. I was able to trace it back to near the valve. It was a very slow and small leak. The new valve seemed to fix it.

The valve is still suspect. But that vacuum breaker still has me wondering. Maybe one causes the other to be the issue. I have paper towels on the floor behind it and there are drips coming from......OK it appears both. But it seems to be more so from the breaker area. Our season is just a few days from ending. So this may be a 2020 project.

I just discovered the same problem with the Dometic 300 toilet in my 2018 Passport GT 2510RB. I have hugged and scrubbed that damn thing, but could not make the foul smell go away. I finally poked a camera through the opening in the back and found a pool of sewage between the walls of the toilet base.

Calling Dometic now.

Oh yuck. I think I fixed my problem.
The vacuum breaker was not in a true vertical position. Sitting at probably a 10:00 position. As it is in a rubber seal I grabbed it and straightened it out. Its been a week or so and all is working fine. I believe a contributing factor may have been low water pressure. Thanks to a plugged filter along with a questionable pressure regulator. With the breaker not vertical, water would come out of the breaker before it before it would seal.
All in all its working and no more leaking.

Update: The folks at Dometic’s Sanitation Division were very responsive. Mine was still under warranty, so they offered a free replacement model 300. For $50 more, I could get the ceramic model 310.

The 310 has the same footprint, but upper rim protruded a few inches further to the rear. Wasn’t sure if I had enough clearance, so I stuck with the original design.

Dometic stated the problem was caused by a gasket getting crimped during assembly. They changed the manufacturing process about a month ago to remedy the problem. Seems kind of odd, ‘cause it seems I saw reports of this problem going back several years.

The number to call is 330-439-5550, option 1. Take a photo of the tag showing the serial number and Mfg code.

Happy Trails
