NV Accident
Saw this posted on another site. The list of charges against the driver indicated he didn't even have a valid driver's license, and if I'm reading it correctly, no trailer brakes....along with a host of other infractions.
38,000 lbs is obviously much heavier than any towable RV, but it does illustrate the devastation that can occur when you are overloaded and/or have faulty
or failing equipment and lack any sense.

It sounds like this guy was towing something that required a CDL and he didn't have one along with a host of other infractions. I suspect this happens every day. As far as RVs, folks are out there every day pulling overweight and failures, as we constantly warn about, do happen and they can cause catastrophic failures and damage as we also warn about. Looks as if they are throwing the proverbial "book" at him and rightfully so; 2 dead and many others critically injured due to willful neglect. Life in prison is not too harsh.

Brakes are the most important system on your vehicle. It scares me to think about how many 1/2 tons are out there pulling 10,000 lb trailers. If someone were to forget to plug the trailer in, or the plug were to shake loose on the road, the same situation could happen easily. This guy was grossly overloaded, his brakes didn't work, and I am sure he knew it, and I doubt it is the first time he had done this. He should be prosecuted for manslaughter. IMHO

Most of his violations were for lack of a valid CDL for that weight class. A boat trailer most likely had surge brakes on one axle and not air brakes on all axles required for that weight. Lack of proof of pre-trip inspection racked up a few of the other violations. I'm guessing that vehicular manslaughter was added after investigation was completed.
I don't think he owned that boat either, (JMHO) so if the owner who paid him to transport it he should be charged too.
It's sad the chances some folks are willing to take with other's lives just to make or save a few bucks. As usual ... JM2˘. Hank
