Tracking hooks for awning

Hi - we have a 28rls 2016 Cougar xlite - bought a sunshade that came with tracking hooks to fit inside the awning track. We are unable to get the hooks into the track as the plastic motor head is in the way to fit the tracking hooks. Does the plastic come off the motor head in order to access the track on the awning? Thanks certainly do not want to start taking apart pieces of the awning causing damage to the awning!

Welcome to the forum

Are you talking about an open “track” on the awning roller tube?

The motor cover can be removed but it depends on brand/model to figure out how.

Welcome to the forum. What brand screen do you have? I'm curious as I've never seen one with "hooks" and have never heard of "tracking hooks". All the ones I've seen have a loop sewen in the length with a plastic rod inside. The side that fits in the track looks like upholtery piping with about 6" of the plastic insert sticking out of each end to grab and start material into the awning slot.

Thanks everyone! The brand is called Camwings. I attached a picture (well let’s hope I attached it right . Of the metal piece with the strap to go into the track on the tube of the awning. As I said, the metal piece would not fit to slide in because of the plastic head on the motor. We tried to remove the plastic head but the screws would not budge - rusted in place.
The work around we tried was taking an electrical wire that was flexible enough to bend to get into the track and I took the metal out of the strap and put the straps onto the electrical wire and slid that into the track on the awning.
Hopefully that will hold up the sunshade as we head to OBX next weekend!

Thanks for everyone’s input and warm welcomes!

I've used those holders to put up lights on the roller tube years ago. Must be a pia to have to hook that many hooks on.

I used those years ago to hang awning lights and wind socks. My screen is a Carefree brand. It has the continuous "piping" that slides in the awning tube accessory slot. The bottom corners have grommets to attach a nylon bungee cord to a ground stake that was supplied with the sun shade. I also have 2 adjustable aluminum tent poles and I can set the screen horizontaly or any angle inbetween to vertical. It can rea.ly "expand" the shaded area.

I used a drill bit on a Dewalt drill and made a slot a little larger than the metal piece on the hanger in one end of the roller where one would put the shade to accommodate the hanger.
