Just a thought, there probably is a youtube video (or 3) that will show how to release the tension safely, the right way. Went to bike rally, girls towed the rigs, guy rode the bikes. We got there before them and I had no idea how to release my friend's WDH (she didn't know either). The park ranger came by to help and nearly lost part of his hand or foot in the process. Was glad I had a fiver.

The men should have known better to leave that to you gals without at least showing you all how to release the WDH. Yes it can be very dangerous, my wife almost lost a finger helping me last year... read through these post and it will help you... it did for me. Got it all done fast and safely on the first try, both going to lake and then back home. Great advice here.

BTW, how in the heck did you gals towing the trailers beat the guys on their bikes up there???

I'd be aghast if the literature that came with the hitch didn't describe precisely this information.

It's always good practice to stand aside from anything that's spring loaded or loaded under tension. Things slip, things break and you will not have time And if you don't know how it works find out first.

I remember when I was in my twenties I was sent to do some electrical work in a chemical plant. Walking thru the plant I witnessed a mechanic trying to remove a variable speed pully from a large motor. He was standing on a platform about 15' high and the corregated metal ceiling was about 15' above him. Now this pully was about 25" in diameter and held on to a lower pully by a very large snap ring. Inside that pully was compressed spring. The mech was beating on the snap ring to remove it while bent over the pully. I yelled at him and when he stood upright the snap ring let loose. It shot by his face knocking off his hard hat and cleanly punching a perfect hole thru the roof. Had he not stood up it would have decapitated him. Moral of the story, if it doesn't want to move find out why.

Her husband didn't think about it beforehand. Only tow behind I ever had was a pop up in 1992. Just as much my fault for trying to mess with something I wasn't familiar with. As for us beating them to the campground, they turned off the highway to take the scenic route and also stopped for gas.
