If that wall is hollow without a metal stud going down the middle I would cut it and modify it. Remember to go up the entire hight of the lid so it can open. Not too many people lean back so that 1/4” you need could hopefully be obtained. Trim it out when you are done and it will look factory. I have the 310 and it works great.

I replaced my 300 with a 310 this weekend with no issues. It fit perfectly no need for any modifications.
Goodbye nasty 300 and hello beautiful 310...

Would it be possible to rotate the flange enough to re-position the toilet in a slightly different angle to the wall? Like 30 or 45 degrees?

It is possible to purchase an offset toilet flange. You would have to be able to remove the old one, which might not be easy to do.

Some flanges are slotted to allow the bolts to be moved, mine was not.

But could you rotate the flange itself if it's screwed on or is it glued in place?

Thetford

I would check out the specks on the Thetford toilet. They make a really nice porcelain one. I have always had domestics in the past, but my newer rv has Thetford. They have a rounder bowl and I think I like them better.

In home remodel sometimes you use an offset flange that fits over existing to give you the offset needed.
Sometimes you have to shim around toilet base.

I don’t know if the 300 & 310 are compatible with regular plumbing parts & flanges.

Another solution

You can buy an offset floor flange at Home Depot that will move the closet flange further away from the wall. Do a search on Amazon “offset toilet flange”. You’ll find dozens of choices.
