Nature's LEDs

For years it's been a dry spring/early summer here in middle GA. This year we have gotten a ton of rain. Wet ground and broken lawn tractor has enabled the back yard to go crazy.
Tonight (rain just stopped) the entire back yard is alive with lighting bugs! Absolutely magical!

Cool. We don't have lightning bugs in Oregon, but we do have glow worms.

Don't worry, age will cure that "young" problem. Just to drift off topic further, I would guess you also think of Charlie Brown as a cartoon character. For us with "distinguished character and looks", we remember that The Coasters about the same time told us that Charlie Brown was a clown, yes Charlie Brown ("Why's everybody always picking on me?").

This was back in a time when an exciting evening included catching fireflies in the field next to the house, put them in a Mason jar, and marvel at the glowing light. That is, until mom made you release them and come in and go to bed before The Gary Moore Show came on.

I can hear Hank humming now!

Ron

And Geo, might I add, Gary Moore would have been in black and white!

I'd never seen a real firefly until a recent visit to New York. Before that, the closest I'd gotten are the ones in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland.

They are the larvae of various types of insects. If we go out (at certain times of the year) after dark, we can see them in the grass or on cut-banks along the road (SW Oregon). Here's a link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glowworm

I know. . . . . what does this have to do with RV's?

CUFFS054 and ROLLER4TAN - Very correct!

SUZA - I actually believe the topic has a lot to do with RVs. RVs do give us the ability to show our grandchildren when they visit, or children for the younger set, the joys we had as a child ourselves! Whether "it" is fireflies, glow worms, Old Faithful, Grand Canyon, alligators outside of Alexandria, LA or Florida, Cape Cod, etc.

Now . . . how do I adjust these rabbit ears to pick up "Sargent Preston of the Royal Mounted Police"?

Ron

Rabbit Ears? You mean with the tin foil (alumumumum foil) on the "ears" so you could get that station that kept rolling? That was the days when all TV's had a vertical and horizontal hold. Do you remember sitting in front of the TV on Saturday morning, watching the test pattern waiting for the National Anthem? And standing up when it came on?????

As for remote controls, I was my Dad's "remote control" He would send me outside to turn the antenna from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. I'd have to listen carefully through the window fan as he told me when to stop. I always hated Saturday night. Gunsmoke came on at 8PM and the PBR Saturday Night Fights came on at 9PM. As an 8 year old, I always worried whether a snake was going to crawl out from under the house as I stood there in my underwear and tee shirt, barefoot adjusting the antenna. AHHHH The memories LOL

Better ask Festus2, I think he knows him personally.

Ahhh .. Saturday morning with Hoppy, Cisco and the Lone Ranger. "Who was that masked man?" ... I almost forgot Roy and Sky King.

They were not Digital, HD or even color but they were miles ahead of "Reality TV"

My husband still watches Sgt. Preston, once in a while, on satellite Sky King was always my favorite, along with Howdy Doody, Kaptain Kangaroo, Tom Terrific, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, My Favorite Martian, Mr. Ed . . . . . sure brings back memories. Now, we have nearly 200 channels and its hard to find something to watch (except "Reality TV" ) If it weren't for the old movie channels, news and weather (so we can plan our camping trips), I think we could do without the TV
