Talked to Ford Guy where I bought the truck...He Claims that the PAY LOAD IS 2310 lbs.....So I say to him its a 7700 GVWR so it should be a 1800 lb or so as stated above...He said that he will be guaranteeing that that is what it is, the 4X4 off road package with the toe package as well...So I tell him I want something in writing and he said he would have it done..As long as I did not go over the wt Ford out on it its fine..............But that's the question I say to him it is a 1800# Payload and he says its a 2310# Payload....So he said he will have something in righting tomorrow that it IS a 231o lb Pay Load...I sort of hope it blows up when I have the letter in my hand so I can prove him wrong unless he knows something we don't....
I do want to thank every one for their .02 I have learned a lot and trying to save me after I drank the Kool Aid...I will talk to the Manager as well tomorrow and probley X/Change it for the 3/4 ton.......

If you look on the door post all your questions will be answered, take you all of 3 seconds... you don't need a paper from the salesman, the Federal Government has already taken care of that...

It is sad how little car/truck sales people know about what they are selling anymore. When I was buying my truck last fall at a ford dealer that sells and stocks more trucks than any other dealer in the area they were clueless about what options gave you what in terms of capacity.

Sounds like your salesman is clueless, tell then they miss lead you on the truck capacity and you expect a trade value of what you paid (assuming you have not put 1,000's of miles on it). They are still going to get more money from you for going to a bigger truck.

The bottom line is really pretty simple and the chart your sales critter pointed you at confirms this. If the Safety Compliance Certificate door sticker on your truck shows a GVWR of 8,200#, then page 5 applies - Heavy Duty Option and a payload of 2,310#. However, if the sticker shows a GVWR of 7,700#, then page 4 applies, NOT page 5 and the correct payload is 1,840.

Yep... and then the yellow sticker says what's left after accessories and add-ons... and then you subtract anything you've added plus passengers and cargo.... in the end that's what's left...

I agree a HD F150 would be scarce and I don't believe one could order one with say Lariat or KR trim. "If" I remember it's probably only avail on reg cabs. My father sold Fords in the 70's. A gentleman came in and wished to buy the F150 on the lot. He told Dad he ordered a 10' slide in camper and the family was taking a trip to Alaska in a month. Dad wouldn't sell it to him. He explained the truck wouldn't carry the camper safely. The gentleman agreed and Dad ordered a F250 with all the heavy duty suspension. Ford back then built it and had it on the ground in 28 days. They added a grill guard and the family headed north and completed their vacation. They never could have done that with the F150. Its unfortunate some sales professionals now days lost morals and ethics to make a sale. I personally would not be impressed with this selling dealer recommending an F150 to perform this job.

I do sincerely hope they realize they mis-informed you, and try to get you into the proper truck for the job.

It's a shame the salesman led you astray like that... but that clearly shows that you do not have the 8200lb package...

That's a darn nice trailer though...

In the end maybe it is your fault a bit.... But this dude is a "professional" in his line of work, supposedly!!!! You have another career and are not a truck specialist. That is why you went to a dealership to trust that their "trained" salespeople impart the knowledge to you necessary to make an informed decision. They FAILED in that regard!
I hope you get this worked out and can enjoy that trailer. It is sweet!!!

Yes a good bit of the fault lies with you just as it did with me; but don't let that detract from the fact you were misled about the trucks capabilities if not downright lied too by the salesman...

I see several things.

First, there is no question that you have a 7,700# GVWR truck. It does not have the HD option. From the saleman's own charts, you have a payload of 1,840#.

Second, if I am reading the stickers correctly, you have Load Range C tires on the vehicle. In my view, this is inexcusable. Any tow vehicle pulling a trailer the size of yours should have at least Load Range D tires.

Third, your rear axle is rated for a max of 4,050# on those tires. Given a curb weight of 5,797# (from the same chart), you've probably got about 3,000# on the rear axle unloaded. That means you have roughly 1,050# of weight that you can safely add to the rear end.

Fourth, all of Ford's specs state that you should never exceed the GAWR or the GVWR. 7,700# minus 5,797# equals 1,903# max payload which is a tiny bit better than 1,840#, but inconsequential for this discussion. That further verifies that you do not have a payload rating of 2,310#.

Does anyone disagree with my thoughts?

Steve,
No disagreement here. Thoose tires will not support a 5th wheel even if the truck did. I only suggest that go with 10 plys (Es) for the added safety.
