I don't think I can resist....3500HD Duramax Crew Cab Std Bed 2012

I don't know why I do this to myself. Just the quest for bigger/better.

Found a Chevy 3500HD LT (so it's not loaded), Crew Cab, Standard Bed....Duramax....for 42K out the door. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it has the tow mirrors, tow pkg, and the basics.

I don't think I'll be able to resist this one. Any new truck with diesel has always been 50K or greater. Incentives are so strong right now....

Am towing a Cougar 29REV with a 5.7 L Tundra DoubleCab right now. Am at or slightly over payload so this is not a MUST DO but is certainly seems like a good deal. May not get a truck in that price range again.

Am wondering what the towing experience would be like with a Duramax vs. the gas. The Tundra has the 4.3 rear...so it tows pretty well.

I thought torture wasn't legal......so why do I do this to myself????

Big Truck

I went thru the same delimma back in 2005-2006. I took the big step and bought the 2006 Duramax 3500 Crew Cab dually. I haven't even thought about getting a different truck since! It's pulled 3 different 5th wheels. started with a Cougar 27' then Cedar Creek 38', Then 3612 Raptor Toy Hauler and now a new Raptor 332 TS. As you can see I've gone thru a lot of campers on the same dually. I wouldn't think of having anything else.

That's quite a testimonial!

This is a single rear axle...not a dually. Maybe that's why there are more incentives on this truck?!?

Chris you made me LOL

The LTZ, SRW, 3500HD Duramax/Allison Crew Cab Std Bed will be our next truck... but not for a couple more years!

Our 2006 is still in excellent shape & has a lot of towing miles left; plus, we don't want a bigger/heavier 5th wheel anytime soon.
I LOVE the Ford body style, but not willing to give up the Allison transmission... and all this coming from the female-half of this
camping couple! Have fun truck shopping... pssst, you're gonna love the Duramax/Allison regardless of what you tow behind it!

The 2013 models are averaging about $60K in our area.

Dually

I had the 2500 HD Duramax/Alli short bed before the dually 3500. It had plenty of power to get going but I couldn't stop the weight I was towing. There were a few times drivers pulled out in front of me and I couldn't get the truck/fifth wheel to stop as quick as I thought it should. Check to see if the single axle 3500 has the same breaks as the dually. If your not going "any bigger" you should be OK. I said that too "once upon a time"! I fixed my stopping problem, now I'm happy! I just have to keep my better half away from that Cleveland RV Show at the IX Center. Now I'm starting to think "International" size truck might be in line! I also pull a big Horse Trailer.

You should price out your vehicle at a dealership here in Houston compared to where you live now. My buddies in Illinois buy their trucks down here and have them shipped back up north and they still come out 3-5k ahead. Just a heads up.

Any disadvantage to the 8 foot bed? Does the extra 18 inches hurt...othe than the hassle of parking it in a lot......

This is probably a stupid question......

Do you get more "truck bounce" due to the extra 18 inches back there?

18" of bed "back there" is supported by 20" additional inches of wheelbase

Well...it is done. Isn't the original Silverado 3500 I found on sale. Was able to negotiate a competitive deal on a GMC Sierra 3500HD (GMC always has been my favorite), SLE, Duramax 4WD, SRW, Crew Cab, Long Bed.

Really love the way it drives. Should tow our Cougar 29REV much better than our Tundra did.

Now to outfit it with Thule bike bar for the bed, bed rails, Line-X (eventually), etc....etc....
