Considering new tow vehicle for Mt High Country
I have a 2013 Montana High Country, 34 ft in length. Dry weight is 9100 plus maybe 1500 more for contents. I have been towing this with an 03 Silverado 3/4 ton with Duramax. The new Silverado gas rig has GCWR of 20500 with 14,500 towing capacity. Is it worth spending the extra money for the diesel?

There are a number of threads on the forum concerning diesel vs gas and a number of threads concerning 3/4 ton vs 1 ton when buying a diesel.
Essentially it boils down to what you can afford, how much you tow, whether you want diesel or gas, how long you're going to keep the tow truck, whether you're planning to upgrade to a larger/smaller trailer in the future, and the list goes on and on....
Each buyer has a set of personal circumstances that make the decision independent from the factors that would affect another buyer's choice.
Take a few minutes (or more) and read through some of the discussions about this topic in the "tow vehicles" section of this forum. There are numerous posts that discuss not only the considerations I listed above, but many others that may or may not be important to you.

In my opinion, yes. I'm just down the road and a 1000' higher in elevation from you. The diesel has a turbo, and the gasser doesn't. At these elevations with passes higher yet, the non-turbo engines don't do as well.

I think it boils down to how much you're going to be towing and where. If you will tow a lot and a majority is in the mountains the gas would do the job but you would be happier with the diesel, IMO. I'm a gas guy because it works for me...but, my RV is at least 1500 lbs lighter than yours and I don't do lots of towing - especially in the Rockies.

If you have the extra money it will be worth it at purchase time and resale.
