5th wheel hitches

Hi guys, can anyone tell me the pro's or con's to 5th wheel hitch rails that go across the box to ones that go length wise to the box?

I'm looking at:
Curt Q16k w/slider - which has the rails going across the box, or
Hijacker 16k w/slider - which has the rails going length wise.

Is one better then the other or ???

Not really, they will both tow safely, just a different way of doing it. The cross rails are more common in the industry and make it easier to change/upgrade if you ever want to without changing rails.

BTW, do a search and read some threads on this forum concerning slider hitches before you spend the money. Make sure it's what you want.

I have always had long beds so no slider, and I have had both styles of rails. I agree they will secure your hitch equally, but there are hitch's available that will automatically move the pin back without sliding.

If you don't want rails or the weight of the typical fifth wheel hitches, take a look at www.andersenhitches.com. I have the goose neck attached version that eliminates the need for rails. It is very easy to remove from the bed and the bed is minus the rails if I need a flat floor. 24,000# capacity.

I have the B&W turnover ball hitch that the Andersen connects to. Great goose neck hitch that stores out of the way when you don't need it. It's actually nice to be goose neck, fifth wheel and bumper pull capable, while having an unobstructed bed with no rails and no hernia inducing, traditional, fifth wheel hitch to remove.
