Hello from Washington State

Hi Everyone,

We have a 2021 Keystone Passport 2210RBWE being towed by our Ford F-150. This is our first trailer and have put over 4,000 miles on it since we purchased it. Matter of fact, we were so excited to use it that we took our first trip just 3 weeks after bringing it home. We did a 2 week, 3 National Park vacation with it this year and had a blast! Only ran into one minor hiccup when we stopped for the night and opened the door to find the bathroom door had fallen right off the door jam. After looking at it, the block of wood was not a very good piece and none of the 3 screws holding the door to the jam were in any wood but between the partial piece of wood and the thin decorative wall. At least it was the last stop of the trip on the way home. Got it home and fixed it and put the door back on so we are now all set to go again. Next trip will be a move from Washington to Texas for work. So looking forward to a new area of adventure. We were tent campers but as we got older, it is harder getting up off the ground in the morning. Can't wait to hear stories and get advice. Looking forward to trying boondocking one day but I have not gotten that brave yet.

Welcome to the forum Kim! Lots of good folks with tons of information and experience willing to share. Btdt on the tent camping and as you are finding out the RV is going to open up a lot of possibilities.

Don't worry about boondocking yet. Being able to camp untethered from commercial sites and utilities opens up lots of more remote areas and then you are limited by how many of the conveniences of the RV you really "have" to have. If you use it strictly for a place to sleep in an environmentally protected area you can stay for a long time. If you want to use the "facilities" you will be limited by how much water you can bring and how much your trailer can hold before having to dump. In your case you have 30gal. waste tanks so the gray water tank will fill quickly if using the shower and you have more than one person. Boondocking won't have AC power to run your appliances so you have to take along a generator....or a LOT of solar equipment. Lots of things to think about but in the short term use it to get used to it and work out the bugs. Look it over closely after every trip to look for loose screws, trim, doors/drawers that get misaligned etc. Be especially watchful for any kind of leak or the unexplained presence of water in the interior.

Heading the TX? Where in TX are you heading?

Can't even remember how many times we been from Texas & Arizona to the Seattle area moving our son & family on about every route possible.
I can say without a doubt the traffic on I-5 sucks from one end to the other & couple of the other southbound routes have absolutely nothing for miles & miles so if/when you see a gas station fill up whether you need much or not, you may not see another for a while.
Where are you headed to in Texas?

We are moving in May to San Antonio. We are both super excited about the move and it puts us closer to family. So a win/win. Thanks for all the advice. I am looking forward to learning how to maintain our trailer on our own. We do the basic stuff now but take it in once a year for a good inspection and any repairs by a mechanic. I know some of these things I can learn to do myself and I have been watching a lot of videos on resealing roofs, windows, and other parts I hadn’t even thought about until I saw it in a video. I love how open and helpful everyone in the RV community are. It is so refreshing to find a group of people who really care and want to see others succeed.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on getting your new camper. It sounds like you are have a great time traveling. Sorry to hear about your door, but it sounds like you got it figured out.

We had a similar situation with our Montana High Country. Ours was our 5th camper. We picked up the camper on a Wednesday and Friday night we were sitting in a state park some 300 miles from home. When we got there the entire closet shelf and the cloths bar had broken and collapsed. Our situation was exactly the same, screws screwed into styrofoam walls, nothing hitting any studs. It took 3 attempts to get that closet rebuilt. I finally did it right myself, and it's rock solid now. So, I completely understand your disappointment and bewilderment, and joy once it was fixed right!

Again, welcome to the forums!

Welcome welcome. Hope you have tons of fun!

My only question is to Texas Steve. What the heck is a puffy taco and a big red. Round here, big red is UNL sports! LMAO.

Puffy taco is just like a regular taco except the shell is puffy. A Big Red is a red pop with lots of carbonation. We ain't got any UNL around here and the currently pathetic Spurs are it except for the UTSA Roadrunners which don't seem to get aired on the tube even though they are now Div 1. I am a UT fan and the Longhorns are having a decent basketball season so far and the football team was another deflating flop.

I'm a Texan in Arizona where Mexican food has more of a Indian (native American/Sonoran) twist, but have a sudden craving for a puffy taco & a Big Red TexMex style.

Off topic.. Only been to SA once while in college. Mostly did the tourist stuff while visiting a tennis buddy's family there. I learned about Big Red from a book series set in SA. Called Tres Navarre series from Rick Riordan, they same guy who wrote Percy Jackson, but this series is for adults. The book characters added tequila to their big red which sounds horrible no matter how you think about it.

Never tried it with tequila, but it's pretty dang good with vodka.
