Not yet. Can you provide a little more info? Is the clamp defective?

Supposedly this is a common problem, and Ford said they have an upgraded new hose, my crappy dealership, Lithia Ford, is no help. I just truned 60K miles and my 5/100 mile warranty just expired in 12/09! Ford will sell me an extended warranty for $3K, 4/48 ....ya right!
I called a few diesel mechanics here in Fresno and I can get the new hose installed for around $60.00. So Monday I am getting it done.
The cause seems to be oil from the turbo gets on the aluminum intake tube and rubber hose and causes this to be slick??? This is what i am told. I was told to clean up everything with some brake cleaner or rubbing alcohol then spry some hairspray on the aluminum tube and put it back together, this will make it tacky. This does not sound right to me, seems like a band aid? I will find out more Monday.

hoffbrew, I would be more concerned with oil coming from the turbo. I have had diesels (Cummins' and Detroit's) for a long time and have never seen oil coming from a turbo. Because of the high rpm I would think Ford uses a similar oil-bath bearing on their turbos and leakage would not be normal. Forget the dealer and talk to the local diesel repair shop and see what they have to say about the leak. There are after-market silicone hoses that are available also that may hold up better if the oil is the norm. Good luck, Hank

I have an 05 F250 6.0 also and have had this happen 3 or 4 times, but it started after dealer had done some work on turbo system (fixed a pinhole leak in tubing somewhere).
To be clear, the front connection of the tube from the turbo to the intercooler pops off, correct? Mine only did it under load at over 30lbs of boost (factory gauge reading), so I finally fixed it as described above. Pull off aluminum tube & silicone hose, clean very well, both the outisde of the tube & inside of the hose, sand both surfaces to rough them up, CLEAN very well again to remove grit, and spray a light coat of High Tack Spray-a-Gasket Sealant (Auto Zone). Re-install clamp & tighten pretty hard.
I have not had problem since, but I try to keep the boost below 30 lbs.

Thanks for the help. I did go to the local diesel guy and had him put a new hose on. He said he has never had anyone come back after he has put these on. I did have the newer updated hose on, but with this coming off so many times, the hose was worn a tad. Lets see what happens, I am gun-shy about going anywhere now, just driving right now I am waiting for it to pop off again. I know... I will get back to normal...soon hopefully!!

Turbo Hose Problem

I've been reading about your hose problem and I have a question. How do you know when this happens? Noises, oil, both? I'm asking because I just bought an 06 F250 TD and I have never owned a diesel before. My runs great and the neighbors said they could hear it the day I bought it when I started it up at the dealer which is 34 miles south of where we live, so if it's that loud then it's a diesel and It's doing it's job.

Mine only came off under full load at over 30lb boost, so when it 'blew', it sounded like a gun going off.... I still had power but no turbo power... always happened on a hill, pulling the trailer (Cougar 294RLS TT), maybe 10k lbs? If it comes off on you, under load, you'll know it.....

Talking

I am a Ford F-250 SD owner and am new to diesel's and this engine (6.0) in particular, could someone post a picture of the offending part or describe it better so I can check mine?

Have always done all my own work on my gas vehicles over the years but this is my first diesel and I don't have a shop manual yet.

Thanks

I will get a pic for you. So far so good on this. And YES! Sounds like a shot gun, the tube dented my hood from the inside!!! I also put a new inter-cooler on too, just for my own mind. I am actually getting 3 MPG better with this new cooler.

Here is a pic of intake/turbo tube that would pop off and new inter-cooler.

Hoffbrew,

Thanks for the pics! Mine is OK so far and I hope it stays that way I have been lucky so far with my 2007 F-250; no problems at all in 18000 miles with about 7K of that towing our 5er.

Here's a site that might help. These guys on this site are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I have a 7.3l psd and the oil in the fresh air intake hose comes from the CCV. Ford decided to route the crankcase ventilator hose back into the intake to keep the smell down. As a result, the hoses get oily and pop off every now and then. These guys on FTE (the ford truck enthusiast site) invented a modification for this problem. Check out the site, and don't be afraid to ask questions. There is even a section on towing there too.
Hope this helps.

Hoffbrew,

Another common problem associated with the Ford diesel trucks is a leaking EGR cooler. This happens because the casting sand used in the production of the cooler and associated cooling system, contaminates the coolant over time and eats away at the EGR cooler causing a failure. The coolant leaks into the exhaust and can result in a very expensive repair ($3000 to $5000).

I recently heard about this problem on another site and after a lot of research I found that it is true! There is a prevention solution, install a coolant filter at a cost of about $120 and about an hour of install time. Most if not all commercial diesels have a coolant filter.

Check this out here:

http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=324

I will be installing one on our 2007 F-250, and maybe even before the warranty period is up.

I had a 2006 f250 and it only had 200 miles on it and it blew the inter cooler hose. It sounded like somebody pulled the triger on a shot gun beside my head. I looked to make sure the rv was still hooked up. If yours blows you will no it. Dealer had to replace the inter cooler and the hose and the turbo. I wasn't a very happy camper. I now have a 2008 6.4 twin turbo dual wheel f450. I am towing a Raptor toy hauler and the gross weight is 16,000 lbs. Good luck and happy camping to everybody.

Another solution is to put on a redesigned after market EGR cooler that will replace the factory cooler. This has been done by several Ford owners in my area were I live. My son has installed them for a couple of his customers fairly ease install.

Turbo hose

My family owns 2 '06-60 PSD.
Mine would blow the hose right off the aluminum downpipe regularly, (I am the old man, concervative driver). My son is the driver with the 60 pound foot, and his never came off. I make about 32 lb/boost, my son makes 30. (we are at sea level.)

To make a long story short, the local Orange County CA. truck dealer simply replaced the ABS pipe from the intercooler - with a steel one. Clamped it down with new grooved rubber hose to plenum clamps (2 ea.) and problem solved for over 4 years! If you have an ABS hose from the IC, then tell Ford to install a steel one. Mine was free, but under warranty.
