Question ? New norm for vehicle mileage and age ?

I've just started the search for a used 3/4 ton truck. What is considered OK? Lets start under $35,000.

May I suggest you also expand you search to 1 ton trucks. You will find that they have much better payload numbers.

Gas or diesel? Standard cab, extended cab or crew cab? 2WD or 4WD? Standard or long bed?

I know lots of questions, but each one will affect price along with general appearance and miles on the odometer. Prices will vary by area of the country, and availability. By now your head is probably spinning, I would use resources like Kelly blue book, and NADA to start.

To further confuse the issue; what is the intended purpose of the vehicle (towing I assume), what weight for the RV (or future RVs) etc. Amenities you would like; cruise, AC, 4x4, CC, long bed or no, diesel/gas.....the list is endless of what you need to specify to get an idea of what it is you can get with 35k.

bcintx - You can most certainly suggest that !

chuchster57 - Gas ~ Why? From what I'm understanding, payload numbers stay higher, Correct me if I'm wrong. Also to keep the purchase price down. Cab size - not regular cab, I'm leaning towards extended cab and long bed. 4WD. It will also be my daily driver. An 8' bed with a crew cab will not be fun in most parking lots, I'm guessing with the long wheel base though, it would tow great ? Head Spinning - Yes, I'm getting ready to put a little something extra in my coffee for my head!!

sourdough - Confuse me away! You are correct, intended purpose is for towing. Current RV has a posted gross weight of 4700#'s, 490# tongue weight. I have not however scaled it, to verify these numbers, or for what we normally have in it. That is on my to-do list. Future RV weight? Size? That's the million dollar question ! ! 4X4, cruise, AC, Gasser, at the moment those items come to mind.

$35,000 would be the MAX

Here's one (of many) places to start a search for a different truck: https://www.autolist.com/listings#pr...000&body_style[]=truck&category=large&city=Chicago&state=IL&locati on=Chicago,%20IL&latitude=41.8781136&longitude=-87.6297982&radius=100&driveline[]=4X4&door_count[]=4&cabin[]=crew&page=1

I have no experience with the business at this link and don't even know if it's a business or just a "inventory listing service". Anyway, I used the Chicago area with a 100 mile range and searched for 4 door trucks under $35000.

The list came back with over 80 pages of available trucks. So, lots of "pictures and information to give you some ideas about what's available in the price range you want.

GOOD LUCK !!!!!
