Vent Insulator

I can't find a thread that discusses options/fixes to something that we noted last year.

Does anyone insulate the roof vents and what methods do they use. We have put the 'caps' on the vents so that they can be open when we travel but in hot weather they seem to be more of a heat source for the beating sun requiring the AC to run quite a bit. Since we live in cold weather normally and only travel up to November we easily tolerate the occasional 30 degree evening and I guess they would help there too.

What are the pros/cons with insulating the vents and do people just use the (insert brand) foam rubber wrapped inserts?

thanks in advance

I have the vent inserts and they keep the heat out in the summer, and heat in in the winter. I don’t have vent covers.

I have vent covers so the vents can be opened in the rain, Max Air I think. Also use a vent "pillow" which is a square peice of foam with a fuzzy cover. They work great at insulating the vent.

We use vent pillows in the summer to keep the "solar heat buildup" from warming the trailer interior. In fall/winter use, we keep the vents "slightly open" to facilitate keeping condensation controlled... So, we use "vent insulation" in the summer to keep heat out but do not use any insulation to keep the humidity inside the trailer during the winter.

We used to use the foam vent inserts all the time but don't as much anymore with the 5th wheel. They do work and were really noticeable with our last trailer that had black max air vent covers (as does this one).
