Just recently, our friends who were travelling in WA suffered a "blowout" on the highway. No damage to the RV other than the tire which had a large section that had been either punctured by a large, sharp object or had exploded.
After they had arrived home, I went over to look at the damaged tire. Hanging out of a very large hole were the steel strands. I took a closer look at the tire and found that it was a C Load Range with 50 lbs PSI cold pressure. All of the tires on this 2013 30 ft Flagstaff Lite were all the same - C load range.
Not sure about the other stats but the dry weight of this unit is 7200 lbs and is designated as being "Lite".
Our Cougar doesn't have that designation and its dry weight is 7000 lbs and came equipped with Load Range D tires @65 psi.
I've owned 3 different 5th wheels - all smaller than our Cougar and they all had Load Range D tires. I've never heard of or seen any 5th wheels with Load Range C tires until I looked at the Flagstaff's. I did pay a visit to the Flagstaff dealership and asked the Service Manager about this and he said that all of their Lite 5th wheels come this way.
After talking to my friends, they have now decided to upgrade the tires to at least Load Range D tires and are looking at Maxxis.
What is it with Flagstaff putting Load Range C tires on some of their 5th wheels?? Are there any Lite Keystone 5ers with the same Load Range C/50psi tire?
And yes, it was a Chinese tire for those who might ask.
