New 5th Wheel

Well it happened.

The DW and I went to the RV show in Charlotte a few weeks back and the DW fell in love with a Coachmen 5th wheel 390qsmb model. The selling point was the bunkhouse and rear living design. I checked the RV trader online and found only a year old (2016) which save us 15K in price so we jumped at the deal. The VR1 was a good trade-in and we really like it as a beginning camper but the ink is now signed.

I hope you all still let me hangout here

We can't wait until the first trip in April to really see how the new glamper works out for the family.

The one puzzling point I noticed was fuel mileage. We towed the VR1 to Charleston SC and averaged around 11.7 MPG there. On the return trip back with the 5th wheel which is approximately 5000 pounds heavier, I had the same MPG of 11.8?? You would think it should be worse?

Enjoy your new 5er.
I think you can stay on this site if you go under an assumed name.

I would expect the fuel mileage to be similar, maybe even better with the 5th wheel. Although the VR1 is not your typical shoe box TT, my experience pulling them and the experience of other transporters I knew was that it wasn't any better.

The V-Nose design was marketed as a fuel saving but I question that now. Im happy that the 5th wheel is going to be the same on level ground. Im sure pulling up a grade the weight will cause it to drop.
