Question 2010 Ford F150XLT Crewcab

I purchased new last year a Keystone Bullet 286 QBS, 33 ft long. I am pulling it with a 2010 Ford F150XLT Crewcab. It is about time to purchase new tires for the truck and the original ones that came on the vehicle are Michelins P265/60R18's. I would like to know recommendations on tires to put on the truck since we are headed into the Summer Camping Season and we will be on the road a good bit.

Those tires are probably rated at 2271# at 44 psi. Then the vehicle manufacturer MUST derate them to 2064# for service on a truck. What is your truck’s rear GAWR? For hauling a trailer around I’d get a wider tire, preferably a light truck tire with at least 15% load capacity reserves over your trucks rear GAWR.

I agree you will get a better towing experience with a higher rated LT tire.

We were looking at new tires for the 150 but traded it instead. I was looking to get a better tire and the tire dealers kept telling me no matter what I put on and no matter what the tire said for psi, I could not go over the 35 psi that Ford put on the door. Found it to be confusing. Anyway, good luck.

I recently put Cooper AT3 in a LT E rated tire and I feel the towing is much better. The ride and noise is like factory when inflated to 50psi and at 70 psi when towing they are quite but ride a bit more rough.

I'll add my vote for LT tires. As far as brand goes I was very impressed with a set of BF Goodrich tires one one of my former trucks. They are spendy though.

That was just a bad experience with an untrained person. Tire pressures found on the tire placards are not supposed to be reduced. However, any tire pressure above the placard pressure can be used all the way to the maximum amount found on the tire itself.
