Late winter take off

Assuming the border reopens between Canada and USA, would you travel to Florida taking off from eastern Canada in late December early January with a fifth wheel ? Would this be too late for a safe trip, has anyone done it on several occasions?

Rolly, not from CA, but from Minnesota once and Wisconsin once. Winterize, pack for an emergency(as you always would), and if things get rough half way down, call my friend Marshall in Maryland. He and his lovely bride will put y’all up for a few days!
Tell ‘em Jim sent you.
Seriously, full fuel, propane, drive carefully. I95 is a big lifeline to this country. Things wouldn’t be bad for long.

Not from Canada either, but we have, for several years now, left central Indiana for Florida or South Carolina or Lousiana the week of Christmas. The camper is winterized until we reach the Kentucky - Tennessee state line. We'll un-winterize once we cross. When coming back home a week later, we'll winterize when we know we are going to cross that line coming back North.

We carry a port-a-potty and a 5 gallon container of water for overnights if we are still in freeze territory. Once at the campsite, both port-a-potty and water container go under the trailer, outside.

We've done this with both travel trailers and our fifth wheel. Works great. Think outside the box and you can do it too.

We've towed from northern Michigan to south Louisiana/south Texas in January/February a number of times. We leave the trailer winterized until we're around Memphis or in that region. Typically, we just stay in a motel/hotel the night or two it takes to get to warmer climates. Towing north in those temps carries a "double edged sword"... First, when to winterize but more importantly, the questionable snow/ice to move in order to park the fifth wheel and the inability to clean the salt/road deicer off the bottom of the trailer....

We'll tow south in the winter, but for the reasons above, I'm very reluctant to return home until we can be assured that we can clean the trailer properly and store it without being "buried in a snowstorm in the yard.....
