Bed storage stuck in upright position!

Just purchased a 2018 Cougar 33SAB. It has storage under the king bed kept open by gas struts. Opened it for the first time today and now it won't close! Tried pushing down on both sides, don't know how much pressure needed. Couldn't find any release button to try. Finally just unscrewed both struts and manually closed it. Any suggestions or tips how to use these struts?

Welcome to the forum
Sorry your first post has to be about a problem. Those gas struts don't have any type of release button, and it's not common at all for, them to stick in the extended position. If you look at the P/N printed in the cartridge, it will tell you how many pounds of force it's rated for.

Often times the mattress has to be on top of the panel to give it enough weight so that pressing it down will close it. You can get struts in different "strengths" and lengths.

Some of the bed struts can be pretty stout. I doubt that a new trailer has defective struts...hopefully. You may need to push down hard on the platform to close it. Just be sure and equalize the pressure against each side and not just take one corner and try to close it.

Mine was same. I would open it, do whatever, try closing it with some force with two hands, walk away cursing it, come back 10 minutes later and push it down with one index finger. Every darned time. I decided it was possessed and just accepted the routine. Always worked so I decided it was safer to not be too curious, in case it turned on me while we were sleeping.

At least you could raise it! I'm going to have to take up weight lifting in my spare time!
