Lippert 6-point leveling system

We have a Fuzion 310 with the Lippert automatic leveling system. On our last two trips with the camper, we have noticed a problem that appears to be from the hydraulic cylinders. Several times during our stay, we would get a clunking noise and the trailer would shake a little. My take is that one of the cylinders is losing pressure slightly and letting the trailer drop a tiny bit. Lippert (after I contacted them) said to take it to a dealer and get the cylinders checked. I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem and if so, how it got resolved. Just wondering if I am in for a pleasant surprise or a long battle.

I don't think anyone, including Lippert is exactly sure what causes that. They say try extending and retracting the jacks to purge any possible air, or it could be just temp changes causing slight pressure changes. We never noticed it on our Montana or our current Redwood, that is until this trip. Right now we have the Front Land Gear Jacks and the front rear jacks fully extended to get level and we have had the popping and you feel a little jerk in the rig, but nothing has shifted enough to affect our roof mounted sat dish so the movement must be much less that it feel like. Thats all I can tell you.

I notice on ours it creeks a little during the day, but it has never jerked the trailer around. I do not think when it creeks that it even moves a little, seems like the noise is actually comming from the cylinder foot when it is on pavement, weird. Have used it alot and still more to learn, not exactly working like it should. Happy Campin.........Ron

On my way to a Keystone dealer to have the cylinders checked. I asked the manufacturer, Lippert, and they recommended I have it evaluated at a Keystone dealer. I also found some very small holes in the roof and the dealer said that I might have to have a new roof installed. We will see what happens when they take a look later today.

The dealer called me today and said that they leveled the trailer after I dropped it off and measured the length of all jacks. Today, 8 days later, they measured them again and said everything was the same. They probably didn't hear the noise because they were not around it and I'm wondering how accurate their measurements actually were. Anyway, they are not doing anything with the cylinders and the leveling system.

Keystone is evaluating the holes in the roof to determine if a new roof is in order. I should know that decision in the next couple days.

I'll probably contact Lippert and see if they have any suggestions, now that the dealer didn't find anything.

Probably not a bad idea to take your own measurements on your next camping trip. That way you can determine for yourself if the noise you hear coincides with a drop of the trailer.

At a minimum, you'll be around to hear it.... As you're correct that they didn't sit in your trailer and wait for a noise.

I personally don't think you will find enough movement to be able to measure. As I mentioned in my post above, we had the popping with the jacks nearly fully extended. This past weekend at the PA Samboree we had no noise.

The dealer did ask me when (time of day) this happens and said it might be a heating/cooling cause. I didn't keep track, but will in a week when we get the camper back and head out for another adventure. I sent a note back to Lippert and let them know that the dealer found nothing wrong and asked what I should do next. I'm curious as to how widespread this problem really is. If anybody reading this has heard this in their trailer, please post a reply so we can get an idea on the scope. Thanks!

We have the 2012 fuzion 310 and when we were up in Steel City Raceway in PA. I had the same thing going on but it was always around 4:00 am to 7:00 am.

The trailer would make a load pop or bang and it sounded like it came from the front left jack (facing the trailer) The weather was in the 50s in the am when it did this.

But also we were up in NY at a track a lot cooler in the am low 40s and it did not do it. The only diff was in PA was we where using about 3/4 of the jack and in NY only 1/4 was used to level up.

Ron.

Picked up the Fuzion yesterday. The dealer has been in conversation with Keystone for over a week with no answers and called again yesterday while I was there. The Keystone rep said that he could not authorize a new roof because it was so much money and would have to bounce it up the management line. I am assuming that they feel a new roof is necessary because of that comment. I don't think anyone knows how those tiny holes got there. Also have something sharp from underneath trying to poke a hole in another part of the roof. Pictures of that were also sent to Keystone. I'll post when I get a final word on the roof.

As to the Lippert system, they haven't responded to my email from last week, so I'm still waiting on that issue also.

I too have a 2012 Fuzion 310, and heard the jack pop this morning when I walked by the trailer. Sounds like a common problem. Would like to know the cause and solution.

You can also go over to the Montana Owers Forum too. Lippert must have changed something as those that had the system previously or retrofitted by TrailAir don't seem to have it. We never had a problem on our retrofitted system on our Montana, but have had it once in a while with our SOB. No one seems to really have an answer and possible causes are all just guesses at best, temperature changes, air in the system, jacks fully extended. I for one am not going to loose any sleep over it.

I just picked up my new Fuzion last Friday and experienced noise from the level up system the first night. When I parked it at home I put a square piece of 2x8 under each jack foot. Even with hustling around loading all of our gear into the new rig, we have not experienced any noise from the jacks.

The way it was parked at the dealer, one side was on pavement and the other side was on stone and there was an elevation difference. I feel that the angle of the front jacks side loads the jack and the noise I was hearing was the foot pad slipping on the asphalt.

I'm not sure if this trick will help anybody else, but I will report back after I have used the camper a few more times.

That is an interesting thought! We used our camper last week and due to the shape of the ground we were on, the front and middle jacks were not extended very much. I don't recall hearing the noise that week. Now, the trailer is back home and just today I heard the noise while standing in the driveway next to the trailer. The spot here at home requires the front jacks to be extended quite a bit. I have noticed that the front jacks do not project straight down, but are pointed outward a little. I remember thinking about this the first time I looked at the jacks and wondering about the side load on the foot as the jacks extended further and further. I'm sure that if the foot slipped sideways a little because of the stress, it would make a clunking noise and possibly cause a little shake in the trailer - just the symptoms that I have experienced. I will ask Lippert about this.

We have the Lippert on our Big Sky. We have made several trips and I have not heard anything.
We will have a good test next week as we will be in Eastern WA where the temps. will be anywhere from the mid 60's to down in the 30's at night.

DW and I toured the DRV manufacturing last Friday and learned something pertinent to this thread. DRV invented and holds the patents to the auto-level system. They licensed the small leg patent to Lippert for its use and sell. This is the system discussed here and on DRV Traditional fiver. The legs are NOT straight. They are inclined 5 degrees to add stability and to help stabilize the fiver.

DRV did not license or sell the rights to the Level-Up system they use on the Mobile Suites or Elite Suites. This large piston system is still exclusive to DRV. However, this large piston system is also inclined 5 degrees for stability.

Now that is really interesting since while I was having the Level-up System retrofitted to our Montana I was talking to the Gentleman that designed the Level-Up system and was the owner of TrailAir in Goshen, IN. He has since sold the entire TrailAir business to Lippert and everything has been moved to their place in Goshen
