Dagnabbit..

Now I got to go drain the water and blow out the lines... Artic whatsit is coming to town for a couple of days...

Probably not going to be cold enough for long enough to actually freeze anything but I guess better safe than sorry and mess up the trip this weekend.

Ahhhh, just turn the heat on and set it for 50 degrees. Should keep the belly warm enough to keep everything from freezing.

Nothing like you guys get, but mid 20's F for a few hours each night. The trailer is in storage and I can't run the heat cause I can't put the slides out and leave them out. It most likely wouldn't hurt anything to just leave it, but who wants busted stuff in a trailer they ain't even used yet..

Went down to 15 here last night. Miserable. You're smart - don't risk it!!! 20 is COLD. One time we de-winterized in the spring for a trip and decided it would be okay to just leave it when we returned. Of course, it froze again and next time we went camping we had a toilet fountain in our bathroom - had frozen and ruined the valve.

I said that once. Left it too late. BIG MISTAKE!

(But it was a lot colder than mid 20's)

My fiver sits in the back yard uncovered. Last year had 17 degrees at night for a week. I didn't do anything and didn't have any issues.

Javi,

Peace of mind is a wonderful thing . Blow out the lines and you won't have to worry.

Trailer is less than 5 minutes from my office so I ran over there at lunch and opened the FW tank drain and the LP drains, then opened all the faucets, washer lines and pulled the anode from the water heater... Left it all draining so...

Now all I have to do after work is swing by the house and pickup my little compressor and a couple of gallons of antifreeze...

Its just that we don't normally get our first freeze until after Thanksgiving... frost yes... freeze nope...

Same here Javi... Going to be about 30 here Friday and Saturday night. Going on our last trip though and should be ok with the heat on each night. Coming home Sunday and winterizing before putting to bed.
Thought we might get another trip in but going to be below freezing again during the week after. Way to early this year

Btw

All this reminds me of a question I had: If I take the anode rod/plug out of my water heater to drain it, should I be trying to further dry the inside of the WH, or is it enough just to leave it open, or put the plug back in? I've seen a post where someone used a wet/dry vac to further vacuum out the residual moisture, but I'm not sure if that's necessary or recommended.

Nope it ain't necessary, the little water that remains in the bottom of the tank won't hurt nothing.. I just leave the plug/anode out until I'm ready to hit the road again.

Suburban gives the following instructions:

"WINTERIZING If your water heater plumbing system is equipped with a bypass kit, use it to close off the water heater, drain the water heater completely and leave the water heater closed off (out of the system) in the bypass position particularly if you are introducing antifreeze into the plumbing system. Antifreeze can be very corrosive to the anode rod creating premature failure and heavy sediment in the tank. If the plumbing system is not equipped with a bypass kit, and you intend to winterize by adding antifreeze to the system, remove the anode rod (storing it for the winter) and replace it with a 3/4" drain plug."

I live where winter has sustained temps below -20F. All I've ever done is close the bypass, remove the anode, drain the heater and store the trailer. I've never vacuumed out any remaining water, not sure if it evaporated or remained in the HWH, but I haven't had any damage in the past 5 years doing it this way. Here's hoping next spring isn't the first damage I see <sigh>.

Yup was planning an outing too...then came the cold. Was able to drain and blow out, left a small heater going so didn't have to unload everything. Got some single digit stuff here in Colorado...even a few below 0. But hey, the skiers love it and the mountains look great. Still might have to take the rig out a few times yet...winter camping can be beautiful.

-13F in the river bottom near the house tonight. Here's hoping I followed directions properly winterizing a couple of weeks ago!

OMG it's getting down to 30 in Houston for a couple hours tomorrow morning. Weatherman/woman ratings are up!
Yes kids, you have to go to school!
Supposed to have another cool blast next week. I guess I'll drain the water soon.
Normal for today is low 53, high 73.
