Light switch in bedroom

I have a Keystone Cougar 30RLS. The light switch in the bedroom has a blue backlighting. This is OK during the day when trying to find the switch but at night it is pretty much shining directly into our eyes when trying to sleep. Not sure if you can replace the switch or remove the back lighting. We use duct tape and tin foil to cover it at night. Thanks.

For most useful advice, a photo of the switch would be informative.

Welcome to the forum
It’s been a few years, but if my mind is working you can take the switch out and disconnect 1 wire. Don’t remember which one so check it before putting it back in.

Typically any 12 vdc illuminated switch will require a positive and a negative connection. The positive side will power the led and be switched to operate the light. The negative is required on the other side of the led to complete the circuit . Remove the negative wire and the led will not illuminate.

Google "non-lighted rv light switch" and replace it $10

We actually like that blue light on the light switches.

Blue light switch in the bedroom, bathroom, and another for the main living area. Nice soft blue light.

I understand that others may be bothered by it though.
As Texas Steve pointed out though, there are lots of options for non-lighted switches to replace the factory ones.

I have a question related to the bathroom light with the blue illuminated switch. In my Cougar 24RDS, the blue light is off until you turn the light switch to on. My gut (and engineering background) make me think the blue light should be on when the switch is in the off position so you can find the switch in the dark. Am I missing something?

I suspect a trivial miswiring, easily fixed. The blue light feed should be connected to the power line on the live side of the switch, and it sounds like it is connected to the power line on the switched side of the switch.

Swap the positive line and load wires on the switch.

There are two "applications" that use lights in the switch. One, as you indicate, has the light "on" when the switch is "off" to help the user find it in the dark to turn the light on....

The other application, the light in the switch is 'on" when the switch is "on" to give notice to the user that the switch is in operation. Things like the water heater, the refrigerator, the water pump all have "power on lights" either in the switch or on a control panel to give the user "quick information" about the status of the equipment.

I appreciate my "illuminated water pump switch and my illuminated water heater switch. Both have saved my hide more than once......

The blue light in mine is on regardless of switch position.
