Help what is this for?

Hi everyone! I've been remodeling my sprinter and I removed the tin backsplash and discovered an uncovered wire. I don't know what it's for. I know it's not the pump and battery gauge. There is an electrical outlet right next to it. I'll attach pics maybe someone will know. Appreciate the help.

Looks like telephone wiring to me. Older color code. Pair 1 green and red. Pair 2 black and yellow.

Welcome to the forum. It helps if you share the year, make and model. If you go to the upper left of the page and click on "UserCP" and edit your signature ad add the make, model, and year of your trailer and truck.

That looks like an old telephone cable to me as well. Dis you buy this new or used?

That wire can be used for telephone or any number of other functions including control functions for various items - or a transformer.

Actually, that looks like the center of an old speaker with the outside acustic material and frame melted away. My dad was an old school television repair man. I had a lot of fun tearing up old speakers like this as a kid:

Seriously, neither a speaker nor a thermistor would have four conductors, unless some owner put it in homebrew and that was the only spare cable he had. Are only two conductors attached to whatever that nugget is?

(Speakers also aren't wired with solid cable, although if homebrew all bets are off.)

In 2004 and before, most trailers came with an option for a phone hookup and a cable TV hookup. That was before the days of cell phones (for most people) and long before internet connections.

Back then, most campgrounds provided a phone connection on the campground power pedestal and campers could connect their trailer to the phone company with a simple, cable with a jack on each end. Of course, the owner had to "pay the phone company" to connect that pedestal to their switchboard...

While traveling, many people needed to stay in contact with the "stationary world" as well as connect to the internet with their "dialup model" (remember the internet handshake" ???).....

I'd suspect that cable is where a wall phone connected to the "outside world"...

I'd also suspect that somewhere on the other end of that cable, you'll find a jack (near the rear roadside corner of the trailer) where the previous owners connected their phone to the power pedestal.

Mines a 2008 and it has a phone jack available
