X3 Keep buying that Shell gas! I need that pension.
I don't know if Texas has higher tax on truck diesel but around my neighborhood truck stops are 40cents a gallon higher than regular stations.
I have used truck stops 3 times. That's 3 too many.

Went to Buc-ees on the 45 just north of Galveston for diesel a few days ago (without the trailer). $2.61/gal vs $3.33 on Tiki Island/Galveston. I don't like truck stops either, even though the access is good.

Ain't Bucee's great! Take some pics to show your folks back home!
It's supposed to quit raining tomorrow. If you have access to a boat you may try fishing Offatt's Bayou...right down the road from you.
Are you staying at the RV park right there at the entrance to Tiki?
My boss used to live right there across from the marina....before Ike.

We are the folks back home.

No. Parked at my son's place.

Family errands to do today and maybe a motorcycle ride. Already did Moody Gardens with the granddaughter and Gilhooley's with the wife. Good weather forecast until the 31st.

You can find information about diesel tax in the states where you will be traveling with a Google search. There is usually contact info as well for questions. A good example is AZ, they have a commercial tax on diesel at the truck stops. If you use them, you can go in and request a refund on the excess tax. The auto pumps do not have the higher rate. Other states are similar, do your homework ahead of time, know what the laws are and save some money along the way.

A tip for those stations whose pump lanes point at the store: pull in on the far right, but not close to the pumps to leave room to swing around the pumps and go between the fuel lanes and the store, then pull to the outside of the last pump island taking care to make a wide turn to clear the pumps. You may block traffic trying to get out, but they can usually maneuver to get out. This way, you are assured of an unimpeded exit. Of course, you should fill up and move on quickly.

I frequently drive past a TA truck stop. It advertizes diesel prices that are significantly higher than what I pay at my local convenience store. The two stores are only 3 or 4 miles apart. I wondered why, and tried to google it. At the time, I found a web site saying there was a difference in taxing. Of course, I can't find it now. So, maybe I am wrong.

The TA Truck Stop still has higher prices.

I Googled the heck out of it. I couldn't find any tax difference in Texas. I think the fact that truck companies have contracts for fuel discounts, and they can't fit in the local gas station pretty much says it.
I'll only use them as last resort. I saw diesel for 2.99 somewhere here today.

"Keep buying that Shell Gas" reminded me of a good friend of mine. He retired from Shell too and gave that speech a lot! he passed away over a year ago. Sure do miss him. His name was Nat Dayton.

Well I was just a foot soldier in the Queens army. Where'd Nat work?
