Planning for the 2013 season

I just made reservations for two of my trips for the upcoming season. First is Callaway Plantation, just outside of Washington, Ga. and second, Cape Hatteras Campground. The trip to Washington is to see the wife's family. Callaway is just down the road. It only has four sites but all four have full hook ups.

When will you be at Cape Hatteras? We are doing volunteer work at Bodie Island Lighthouse this summer. This is the first year it will be open for climbing in several years. Which campground did you make reservations at?

We just enjoy going to the Outter Banks...We have spent one winter and one summer at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse as volunteers, now we are going back to Bodie Island for this summer. Enjoy your stay.

We too have several trips already planed for this coming year. South Dakota in April, southern Indiana in May, Tennessee in July, Vegas in August and back to southern Indiana October. Been itching to get the camper back to the house and get it ready to go! Spring can't get here quick enough!!!

We stayed at the Rafter J a couple of years ago and loved it there, really nice people and a really nice campground. If you want good tv reception you might want to try and get a site in the base camp section. We stayed in the island section and there was very little to no tv reception and the wifi was hit and miss even sitting outside of the trailer. We ended up going to the office to get wifi. If you get in the Island, Ranch Camp or Lower Ranch Camp section you will want to watch for deer on the road ways if coming in late at night. We had times when coming back to the camper at night that there would be a dozen or more deer in the medow going back to our camp site.

Tentative plans will involve a 2200 mile trip to Texas which will take us through 8 states (WA, ID, UT, WY, CO, KA, OK, and TX) on the way there and 4 states on the way home (NM, AZ, CA and OR).

We've been to all except three (KA, OK, and TX) and the trip will involve about 4500 miles both ways.

Hope to leave home in the Fraser Valley of BC at the beginning of April and be back in early/mid-May sometime. Time is our only constraint. Routes, destinations and campgrounds are not.

We have our route roughed out but haven't made any reservations for places to stay along the way. Might make them as we go... (or not)..... hate having to show up at "x" at a certain day, especially when you are on the move. If we find a place that we like, we could stay there for a bit longer. I guess you could call it a "whimsical tour".

Have been keeping sane this winter making plans for camping.... So far:
1. Ocean City, NJ weekend in April and 4 day over Mother's Day
2. Nashville for 4 day weekend in mid-May. Cedar Creek CG at Mt Juliet.
3. Assateague over Memorial Day
4. Smokies (NC side) for a week in July. Did Gatlinburg last year.
5. Bar Harbor over Labor Day. Haven't decided whether last week of Aug or 1st week of Sept. Made reservations at Oceanside KOA for the last week in Aug. Thinking kids are back in school and bugs might be less in 1st week of Sept....TBD. May change the reservations.
6. Probably VA again in October....Blue Ridge

Last year we went away every weekend but 2 from May until October....not sure we will do as much this year.

New member of the family this year. Just under 4 lb Yorkie named Reagan (yes after Pres) will be with us. We have a bike basket for the pup for our rails/trails trips. Have been getting her used to trips in the truck. We have a booster seat that hangs from the head rest. She rides between us up front. She made a trip to Chattanooga and back to SE PA over Christmas and did just fine. Should be fun.

Can't wait until days are longer and, more importantly, warmer.

Hill Ciyt - Rafter J

It has been years since we have been to Hill City, but we did stay at the Rafter J and liked the campground.

Be sure to have dinner at the Alpine Inn.

If you go through Oklahoma City don't overlook the "Cowboy Hall of Fame".

Point taken, you also might want to treat "Miss Kitty" to an afternoon at Bricktowns Red Dirt Marketplace and hopefully she will feel right at home with dinner at the Bricktown Brewery.

2013 Plans

We are planning a few trips this year. Buttonwood Campground in Mexico PA, Dogwood Acres in Newville PA, FrontierTown in Ocean City MD for a week in June, Ives Run in the northern reaches of PA, Virginia Beach in the fall and hopefully some others yet to be determined. Looking forward to spring so I can take the cover off and get ready to roll.

Oregon and Northern Cal

We aren't retired yet, so only get 3 weeks for our big RV trip. This will be our 4th trip to the Oregon coast. We live in Utah so have many great places for 3 day weekends, but love the ocean so always plan a trip in June before the full swing tourist season. If anyone would like to know about Oregon Coast campgrounds we have stayed in just about every one of them from the north to south.
