5th wheel hitch

I have pullright superglide 18k hitch in my f250 shortbed. I am thinking of upgrade to an f350 8 foot bed. Can I take the superglide hitch meant for my short bed and reuse it in a regular size bed. I really don't want to have to buy another hitch

I'm not sure why you couldn't, but I'd ask the manufacturer their opinion. If they didn't intend the hitch for that application then there may not be a custom rail kt available, but otherwise seems like a hitch is a hitch, you just wouldn't use the slide feature.

I'm with smiller. if there is a rail kit there should be no issue. and you will not have to use the slide function.

Provided Pullrite has the mounting brackets for the F350 long bed it will work just fine. I have the 16k Pullrite SuperGlide with SuperRails in my F250 short bed.

I don't mean to be contrary to SaabDoctor but the slide will continue to function as it is designed to do since your SuperGlide requires the capture plate (which makes the slide function possible) you have on your 5'ers pin box. When the hitch begins to slide you will have double the room between the front of the camper and the back of the cab.

Good luck.

I never said it would not slide just that you would not need it in a long bed

5th wheel hitch recommendation

We currently have a 2012 Montana 3580RL 5th wheel. We don't pull it as it is our "home". We are fulltimers and have been since 2003. We are contemplating acquiring our "get away" RV again. We previously had a 2006 22' Nash. For our second one this time we are looking at a 5th wheel.
My pull vehicle is a 2011 Silverado 2500 HD with the 6.6 Duramax HD. and it;s a short bed crew cab.

I'm looking for recommendations on 5th wheel hitches. I've never pulled a fifth wheel so need some good advice. There's the Reese, plus I've heard of Hitchhiker superslide? I welcome all experiences and help!!!!!

Short bed really need a slider hitch, most swear by the Pullright Superglide this is a auto slider the tighter you turn the more it slides. They are a bit spendy but from reviews worth it. I don't need as I have a long bed.

When you look at 5ers, check out how the front cap is shaped. Our cougar 282res has what Keystone calls "max turn technology". Dealer said that I would not need a sliding hitch with my short bed p/u. I was skeptical and bought a 16k Reese with a manual, round tube slider. When we got the 5er home, we went to an empty lot and tried jackknifing the trailer. With the hitch slid back, we can go to 90 deg - with the hitch slid forward, we can turn 79 or 80 deg. I'm glad we have the slider in case we ever get into a really tight spot, but have not really needed it so far

We really like our Pullrite SuperGlide as well as our Pullright SuperGlide . . . just having a little fun there It is a great well made in America fiver hitch. Certainly not the cheapest hitch but once you lay the cash down for it you won't look back.

Good luck.

A sliding hitch is a must with a SB PU! No matter how the cap is shaped or pin extended it is still 4' from the pin to the side of the trailer! With a SB you don't have 4' from the hitch to the back of the of the cab, so therefore you can't turn 90 degrees without moving the hitch back.

Well like I said, Russ, I can only turn 79 or 80 deg with the hitch slid forward.
I can attain 90 deg with the hitch slid back. I guess the point I was attempting to make is that, UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, I have not yet needed the slider.

I towed a conventional travel trailer for years and never was able to attain more than about 40 degrees when backing. (I survived that quite well).

When we decided to go with a fifth wheel short bed (6.5') truck, I considered a sliding hitch, but when we looked at the backing angle capability of the conventional (non sliding hitch) and realized we could get about 75 to 80 degrees of angle and considering that we were accustomed to no more than 45 degrees, it seemed that we actually gained maneuverability, not lost any. So far, I've been able to get into any site we've wanted to park and no problems at all. Would a sliding hitch give us more "optional angle" ???? Yeah, it would, but would we use it? Probably not. From what I've seen here, most people with sliding hitches state they've never (or seldom) used them, and when they did, it was for convenience, not necessity.

Am I missing something by not having a sliding hitch? If so, what?

I had to use the full 90 degrees once. Got off the freeway looking for lunch, managed to get on a dead end street. It was a 4 lane road with a few cars parked on it. I was able to make the uturn, but I had to be careful not to go over 90 degrees. This was while pulling forward.

My experience is, while backing, if you go over 40 degrees or so, you will not be able to straighten back out. But then, my truck is pretty long.

Folks with short wheelbase trucks that don't have/use a slider hitch also don't have my propensity for turning into dead end roads.

Traded my GMC 2500 HD 6.5' box for a 3500 8' box. Bought a universal rail kit and installed it on the new truck. I don't need the superglide now, but that's what I've got, so that's what I'll use.

B&W Companion 5er Hitch

I use the B&W Companion 5er hitch in my F250 (6 1/2' bed) with crew cab. I chose the B&W Companion so I would have the option of switching to a gooseneck hitch when needed. When I remove the 5er hitch to use the gooseneck hitch, there are no rails left in the truck bed.

Also, I use the Reese Sidewinder hitch adapter on my 2011 Montana High Country.

I have been very satisfied.
