Lippert Rear Stabilizer motor broke a gear
Have a Cougar Xlite 25RES that is now 2 years old. On our last trip this year, the rear stabilizers would not come down. After checking the fuse behind the 'extend/retract' switch and seeing it was good, I proceeded to try and crank them down manually and... they wouldn't budge; they were locked up tight. Fortunately they were in the retracted position, so we were able to continue our trip.
When arriving home, I removed the entire stabilizer unit and checked the screw mechanism for damage and it was okay. So, I removed the electric motor and took the gear cover off and, WOW, one gear was broken completely in half... and it was made of some type of plastic compound (I don't know what), but it definitely was not a metal gear. Found out that you can't replace any of the internal gears or parts for this particular motor, so the only solution is to buy a new one for over $250.
With the motor off, the manual crank worked fine, so I've decided to forgo a new motor and just use the crank. Why spend $250 for a piece of junk that will probably break again in a couple years (or sooner)? That's not really a question... I'm just venting... sorry!
