Trashy Subject!

Found out when I was full timing for 4 months that if you toss food type garbage in your trash can you will get gnats/little bugs. No longer living in the trailer (was for medical treatments) but my missus bought a plastic trash can for that reason. It will fit under the sink with some manuvering but is a pain to open/close as the kitchen sink plumbing drains are more or less in the way.

Has someone thought of a clever way to use a decent size trash can that has some sort of lid that can be stashed full time? Attached a pic of kitchen with cabinets open. The area under the sink isn't as big as it looks....
