break away switch bad?

I pull my break away cable and nothing happens so I check for voltage and got 12.6 volts at the orange that feeds brake switch. So I disconnected the two black wires from break away switch and did a resistance check on switch and got 1.0 with pin inserted and 1.0 with pin pulled. Am I checking this right?

We test for 12V going into the switch to verify it IS getting power. Then we test the other black wire coming out of the switch with the pin pulled. If you don't have 12V going OUT then the switch is bad. Don't try to repair, just replace it.

ok now what

After I replace the defective breakaway switch I do have battery voltage when plastic pin is pulled but still no what I was told that you can hear a hum noise at wheels. I have two blue wires from break away switch...one goes to pickup pigtail and one goes up into nose cap and I assume that it makes it's way to the axles. Sorry wish I new more what's going on but any help would be appreciated

O-k Update I rechecked for voltage with pin pulled and I do have battery voltage feeding brakes (i guess I was checking wrong side of wire for voltage)

Hook to your truck, pull the pin, & try to pull away, if it works the trailer wheels should be locked up.
