Diesel Delivered !!!

I've been told it's Christmas, my birthday, anniversary, Easter basket and "anything else" that might come up where I "get something"......

Monday we headed to Detroit to pick up my new truck. I've been "shopping and saying no" for over a year now and finally the "diesel desire" got the better of me.

Here's the new "beast", so far it's a most impressive truck. Comfortable, more gadgets that any "toy hunter" could ever master, the quietest diesel I've ever owned and it even matches the "swoops" on the Cougar.

Since we're not contemplating buying a larger fifth wheel (the pole barn won't hold one longer than 32') and since a F350 won't fit under the garage door, I bought a F250. So far, 400 miles, so a few more before I even put the hitch in the bed, but ohhhhhhh it's so tempting. The last 2 days have been spent installing the wiring for the camera on the back of the Cougar and ordering floor mats, etc. I've been instructed that if I open one more "Ford Accessory website, my "internet privileges will be terminated.....

I've no doubt that I'll be "paying for this" long past the new smell and the novelty of a new truck. Elephants are said to have "long memories".... They ain't got nuthin' on my DW. She never forgets !!!!! (ever) <sigh>

Congrats John!! That is one fine looking truck.
You can almost completely ignore the 'yield' signs on the on ramp now!
Just step on it!
Very happy for you, and thanks for the thousands of informative posts that I enjoy reading every day!

Congrats! Very close to the color of my truck. You're right. It looks good with the Cougar graphics.

Have fun with the accessorizing.

John

Congrats on the new truck. It looks great and I know you will enjoy the diesel. Now that you've made the leap I don't know how you can keep off the accessory sites; a boy's got to have his toys and the stuff that goes with them!! Have fun and get on the road.

John - That is a great looking truck, very similar to our 2014 F250 Diesel CC 4x4. We had the stock Ford 26 gallon fuel tank replaced with a Titan Fuel Tank 50 gallon and really like the additional mileage range.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

For us, since moving back to Michigan (DW is a "Michigander") it's been a "journey of trucks".

We built (actually tore down and rebuilt) our cabin in 2008-2009, moved into the new house in 2009, bought a Ranger and small truck camper. Decided we wanted something a little bigger, bought the F150 and Springdale fifth wheel. The "SOLE" reason for the F150 was the garage door wasn't tall enough for a SuperDuty. Well, when the tree fell on the Springdale and we decided to "go for it", I had both garage doors replaced with taller ones so a F250 would fit into the garage and we built the pole barn for the boat and fifth wheel.

Since we built the barn "only long enough for a 32' trailer and since both the DW and I really, REALLY don't want to remodel the front of the garage "yet again", I don't see a larger trailer in our future, so the F250 was the "truck of choice."

I've had two diesel trucks and a diesel motorhome, so I'm well familiar with the performance aspect of diesel RVing. What was so surprising for me was the reduction in noise that's occurred since my last diesel. WOW !!!!! I can actually start this one in the garage without hearing protection. Never would I have attempted that with the 93 or 99 SuperDuty.

So far, almost 450 miles and I'm eagerly awaiting the rest of my "break-in" miles so I can install the hitch in the pucks and hitch up, hit the road and see just how much difference there is in the gas and diesel models. I'm expecting a significant improvement in "towing effort" and even some increase in mileage, but how much? Time will tell.

So far, we've got trips planned in June to Ft Wayne, IN, Detroit, and Hillsboro, OH. Then, in July (the reason for the diesel) is our 2 month trip from here, to a military reunion in the UP, on to Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, Craters of the Moon, Great Salt Lake, Steamboat Springs, Denver, Amarillo, Dallas, Shreveport, Memphis, then finally back home. All total, we're looking at around 10,000 miles by the end of summer, so the new truck will be an "old friend" when the leaves turn this year.

Again, thanks for the wishes, we're looking forward to yet another adventure and, who knows what is next !!!! This time, I thought I was going to be happy with a mid size truck and small cab-over camper.... Hmmmmm The more things change, the more they stay the same: We're just "travel trailer folks"....

Nice truck, John. By the way - Weathertec makes a set of "no drill" mud flaps for it. Just put a set on ours. You won't believe how much mud will collect on your chrome steps bars

Pretty interesting trip you have planned there and I can understand all of your stops, except, Amarillo, TX?? I've spent many a night there and unless you just want to go to the Big Texan and eat the 72 oz. steak, or watch the cloggers, there isn't much there except hundreds of miles of rolling "tundra"
Of course you could run over to Canyon and go thru Palo Duro canyon.....or better yet, you might just camp there and go see the play "Texas" - that's pretty cool.
