X-Chock tire lock question?
We bought our Premier 31 BHPR last May and simply used the plastic wheel chocks to chock the tires last year. I have been reading some forums that highly recommend getting some of those x-chocks to place in between the tires due to safety reasons. Obviously, the plastic wheel chocks don't work so well when you have to place the trailer up on levelers.
I have noticed some movement in the trailer when walking from the front to the back and some have said by using those kind of counter acting chocks against the tires, you will have more stability inside the trailer.
We have the spaced out axles on ours and the basic x-chock does not expand far enough to reach the wheels. I saw they make an extended version, but I noticed on my trailer the fender flares and the bracket arm extend down lower between the tires than they do on a bullet trailer, so I was wondering if there is enough clearance to insert one of these style chocks? Does anybody that has a Premier use these or does anyone have any recommendations to make it safer and more stable when parked at the site?

Kurt,
I can't answer your question specific to your trailer but I can tell you that I use the X chock on my Weekend Warrior and it works great! I only have one and when I put it on and the stabilizer jacks down at each corner, it's as stable as being in a mobile home on a foundation. We experience no movement front to back or side to side. I highly recommend the X chock!

I had the x chocks for my old camper but recently bought a bullet with the long wheel base. I havent gotten my extended x chocks yet but I will. As you your question, I saw somebody that had the same issue so they installed the x chocks "upside down" so that the ratcheting part faces the ground. That way they can be easilly installed, avoiding the fenders and the chock is symetrical so it wont affect its function. Having had them for my old camper I will find a way to use them on the new one, they work excellently!!!!

I use a Rotochok on the side with tires up on Lynx Leveler blocks. It works great. Side with tires on the ground just get cheap plastic wedge chocks.

I purchased a BAL 28014 X-chock for our Crossroads fiver that has 15" between the tires at the narrowest point. Work great.

I have another question about these... (Sorry to hijack)
Just wondering how tight you ratchet these suckers down. Do you just keep cranking til you are one click away from bending the axles?

Its hard to describe how tight, but I snug them down pretty good, until the plates are fully touching, and tight to the tires. I wouldn't want to go to tight for fear of damage.

I have a Bullet Premier Ultralight 19FBR, whith the same extended wheel base that you have.
I purchased the extended xjack, and it fits and works great...no problems!!!
It sure makes the trailer steady.

Here's a tip:
When you pull into a campsite and set up, the tires are warm. Install the X-Chocks (or any other product) tightly and then check them after several hours. They will likely be loose enough to remove without the wrench and will require tightening all over again. Remember that the air pressure in the tires goes up due to heat when you travel down the highway. The chocks are pushing against that air pressure when you tighten them. Lower the pressure and the chocks become loose.
Even wedge type chocks that you just place between the tire and ground will come loose as the tires cool. When I used them, I gave them each a few taps with a rubber mallet after the tires cooled down.

Too bad too cause I hear great things about them helping with shake. I also just give my chocks a hit or two after the camper settles.

I had to turn mine over and use the wrench from the bottom. Works just fine and clears the flair molding just fine on my Bullet 246RBS

Here's what I've been using on the Outback.
Trust me they won't slide (done forgot again ) when you try to pull it forward. I've ballanced the TH on a 2x4 for a week and she never moved an inch.

I have a 2012 Cougar 26BHS and use the X-Chocks on both sides. My fenders also get in the way so I have to install them upside down. The ratcheting nut is facing down. I tighten it enough for the four plates to seat securely on the tires without moving around.

I use the good old fashioned rubber chocks. They're cheap, indestructible, and reliable...use 1 on each wheel. (And they work on any vehicle.)Sometimes newer is not always better.

X Chocks are NOT designed to replace the wheel chocks. In fact, in the user's manual, it warns against doing this. They are used to help stabilize the RV from motion caused by walking around inside. The manual also warns against installing the X chocks before unhitching and hitching with them in place. Any major movement such as hitching will put undue stress on the tires and may bend/damage the X chocks or damage the tires.
The RV should also be chocked at all 4 wheels with conventional wheel chocks to prevent rolling on a slope.

So, what would you think about this setup? just doodling around and before I make a second set would anyone oppose doing this? (I removed the chocks on one side just before taking a pic.) and I reckon 2 ratchet straps would balance the boards better??
