Counter top extension

Hello,

I have a 2011 Bullet Premier 28RLPR. It has little counter space so in the past I made a stove top cover out of a cutting board. I put several coats of butchers wax on it and it has worked well. Still, I wanted a bit more space and I have always thought of adding one of those drop leaf style extensions.

The problem I have faced is the trailer's counter is curved with no real straight edges. Also, I have drawers that would be inaccessible when the leaf would be in the down position. I also didn't really want a "stepped down" drop leaf if it were mounted under the counter top lip.

So, I came up with this. It is pretty basic but I think it will work. I purchased a matching cutting board as I have on the stove. I cut it to match the curve of the counter and made it removable. The brackets are mounted and fold flat. Here are a few photos. It is just about finished except I have stained the cut edge and I am waiting for that to dry before I apply the coats of wax.

In the travel position:

In place:

The leaf is level with the counter:

The bottom side so it sits securely in place:

My Hideout had something very similar to your folding counter extension. I took it out because I didn't like it. You did a great job of creating one for a round counter too!

Nice work and food for thought. Our counter extension is of the step-down-hooks-under-the-counter variety. I like the way you keep the extension from sliding off the frame.

Very nice and just what I need. My Outback has the same counter layout and DW is always complaining about the lack of counter space and like you, a flip up shelf would eliminate the use of that end drawer.
Would you give us a source for the brackets?

I'm also trying to find a source for the laminate that Keystone uses for their countertops so if anyone knows that, would you post it in a reply to this thread. No hijack intended, I thought it was relevant to this project.

Dang.. Two years into this trailer and I still have more projects than I have time and money to do..

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Your Outback 277RL was the camper I really wanted but it is a bit too big for my truck. I got the brackets at Home Depot. They are located in the shelving section. I got the 16" brackets since the cutting board I used measures 18x22. I would also love to cover the cutting board in the laminate if the source is available!

Bob,

Trekwood has the trim in amber and in gray, so they likely have the laminate as well. If you email or call them, they might have what you need. Here's a link to the amber trim cap:

You are so right. There's "TOO MUCH" good stuff there.... Every time I go to trekwood.com, I wind up looking, finding things I "know I don't need" but, "man would that be a great project"..... I guess I've built a thousand mods (in my mind) while looking through the Trekwood site.....

+1

I'm eyeing the outside burner and top for a slide-out kitchen based on another users awesome example. Also, they have doors that might work for the dinette storage access retrofit. The prices seems amazingly affordable for stuff, as well. It has been bookmarked.

Trekwood is only one of literally hundreds of websites with "good stuff" for RV'ers. There are a lot more listed in the "Rv suppliers and rv parts sources" sticky found in the Repairs & Maintenance section of the forum. Here's the link: http://www.keystonerv.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12986

Every time I open that sticky I spend money

gregrc, that looks great! We have been wanting to do just that, but had no idea how to go about it. We might try it now that we've seen your pic. Thanks.
