Interior Makeover

Well, we had the trailer five minutes before I started redecorating. Here are the before/after photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9520812...7633296684325/
Thanks to those that posted how to remove the border. The blow dryer worked well!

Nice Job!

Great job on the mods! I really like the faux glass tile in the kitchen...may need to add that to my DH honey do list! lol

Thanks! It really looks like glass tile. I would love to have it go all the way to the upper cabinets, but that would be another $50. I have to STOP!!

I've really been eyeing the behind-the-stove faux treatment. How far under the window did you go with it?

I sure love the bed treatment. It's such an obvious mod that I didn't even think of it. Did you remove the faux headboard and put something else up? In my case, that's the foot of the bed for some logical reason that escapes me.

I went under the window to the edge of the counter top. The piece under the window was only about 2" tall so the biggest challenge was cutting around the curve of the window. But, it just took a little patience. As for the headboard, ours doesn't have one....it's just the wall board with that console overhead. So, you have a storage unit over your feet? Well, at least you won't have a concussion if you forget you can't raise your head in the middle of the night!...Talk about bad planning. lol I don't know why we didn't notice how low it is before we bought it. But, it's attached to the side storage with screws, so it should be easy to take out. I'll post pics if I can talk the hubs into it.

I've been wanting to do the smart tile also, I wondered about the heat from the stove top. I know you just did the mod but do you think heat will cause a problem? I have not been to Home Depot to look at it up close.

The Smart Tiles are shiny, flexible plastic. I think they'll be fine as long as we don't cook at high heat for long periods of time. We cooked breakfast on the stove Sunday morning and it didn't even get warm to the touch. It will be really easy to clean also. Post pics if you do it!

I took doen the valances in the living area because I kept knocking them loose with the swivel rockers. I'm trying to talk DW into doing away with the borders. Just the little bit I did seemed to really open it up and it removed a lot of visible clutter. The interior was just too busy for my taste.

So, we are not the only ones that bump those valances with the rockers! Did you take down all of the valance or just that "layer"?

Thanks! I'm having fun with it. I was just looking at a website tonight that called it glamping.

Latest Improvements

Well, as I said earlier...that overhead console's days were numbered. She's gone! I can't tell you how much better it is to not have that thing over our heads. Removing it wasn't too bad...just a few screws and a good tug. Anyway, here are the before and after pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9520812...7633296684325/

Oh, that overhead console. We sleep with our feet at that end. Originally because we had a newborn who resided in a crib right outside the bedroom door. We still sleep that way out of habit and not wanting our head in a cave. We never turn down storage space, so we'll be keeping that.

I love the reading lights, though. 12V?

Yes, some families would need the space, but it's just the two of us and what we have is more than enough...so we opted for a nice place to read and fewer headaches Yes, the lights are 12V...got them on Ebay. They are much nicer than those plastic ones and were really inexpensive.

I looked at removing the overhead console above the bed, but the cabinets on each side have a slight lip in front of it. Also, how did you access the screws that hold the shelf to the front wall?

Hmmm.... I just remember that we removed the light first, then located the screws underneath...toward the front of the console. The bottom sides were stapled, so they just came out with a good tug. It seems like there were a few screws on the side close to the front. It was a little scary to do it because we were afraid that we might really mess it up, but, as I said on the picture...a little wood filler to fill the holes left on the side cabinets and some spackle on the ceiling was all that was needed and the holes are barely noticeable. We are really pleased that we did it. Good luck!
