What is your definition of full timing and what is your average #of trips per year??

Just wondering what some of you consider full timing?? Also would just like to know how many trips most of you take over the year?? We don't do any winter camping and basically have to wait till the kids are out of school before we can start our season. We average 4-5 trips ranging anywhere from 5-7 days at a time and a couple weekends in between.

We take 1 week in July or Aug, during this time we take day trips to different activities/places in that area. Then we try to go out at least once or twice a month. This year we went out about 10 times not counting the week in August. This year we even went out on 2 different weekends filling the fresh tank and using the genny. Jay

"Half Timing"

Is there such a thing as "Half Timing" it? We pulled the rig to my job site which is four hours from home for a low cost housing solution. So far it has been nice and cozy. Come springtime we will bring it home to use for camping adventures. In the meantime we are looking for a cute vintage rig that I will use during the summer months. Have found some darling and not so darling models from the 60's. I'm sure I'll find the perfect "summer" work rig before spring.

My definition of Full Timing would be someone who doesn’t have a stick house and uses the trailer for their primary residence.

We average one trip a month. A bit more during Summer when the kids and I are out of school. Many long weekends, and the occasional 5-day trip. A full seven days is a bit of a stretch without the full creature comforts of home, like a full-size shower, a closet full of clothes and a big fridge full of food. Once we set up camp, we hate having to run to town for errands.

Yes. If you're counting 'trips per year' then you're not full timing.

We average around 54-50 nights a year. Not done yet. Unless it gets really cold. Hope to "full time" soon. Not sure the wife can do it. She needs a stick house but at least we could try it for a couple of years and tour the country and then find a place.

Full time is when you go home to the trailer not to a brick house...

We are both still working so the best we can do is one long weekend a month and a couple of 6 or 7 day trips during the year..

Can't wait to retire... just 81K to go...

Curlyfungirl -

There is an outfit in Oregon that buys old RVs from the '40s and '50s, restores them to be vintage, yet updates them to be modern. They have been featured on the Travel Channel several times, so you might find contact information on their website.

Javi - As of today, I have 2 years & 2 months, if all goes to plan, before retirement. I'm right there with you. We are in the process of getting the S&B ready to sell and will probably start full-timing in June. Once I retire, it will be time to travel! Think we will head off to British Columbia! I hear that Bernie Sparkes owns a curling rink up there!

Thanks for the info Ron. We are looking way low budget for the summer rig and would not mind a turquoise colored stove lol.

Hmm, Curlyfungirl, think we might be able to find that Big Blue Trailer on the back of the NBC lot in Burbank. You know, the one the Ricardos traveled across the country in. (BTW, their TV was way overloaded!)

Talking Full Timing

Full Timing is just that, living in your RV full time. Number of trips we take from our RV always depended on fuel costs or weather. When you host either campground or maintenace you only work a couple days a week so plenty of time to see the area. When hosting at Monterey County Parks in Central Coast of California we worked 2 days a week then spent the next 5 days wine tasteing in the hundreds of winery's in the area, playing golf and visiting relatives from Los Angeles to San Francisco. My DW always managed to put at least $1K into savings and still had money for fun and games.
If you plan it right most parks and campgrounds want you for at least 2 months so pick and choose the areas you want to see and use your RV as your main base of travel. By hosting you have no rent or site fees and all utilities (full hook ups) are provided even laundry, ice and wood.

Howdy All;

I agree with the 24/7/365 idea of 'Fulltiming'
I moved into mine in June of 2009... if you also
have a 'Sticks-n-Bricks and live there some of the time
then you're a part timer....

I don't go on trips, I migrate. Although, I'm considering
staying put here in Southern N.M. Will be exploring a
RV freindly swamp cooler for next Summer...

Yep, full timing is 24/7/365. We're not quite there yet, but for 2012 we only spent 99 nights at the S&B, so I consider us "Long Timers" or is that Old Timers. Kind of makes you wonder why we still have it.

Full time

Well, we spent 135 days on the road in 2011 and 236 days in 2012. I guess that probably qualifies us as "near" full time.
